My Canon A75 won't power on. Just failed without notice or reason. Camera built in November 2004. Out of warranty. Symptoms: No display, no lens movement, nothing at all. Usual suspects checked: The batteries are good (replaced two sets, and tested all with voltmeter). The battery compartment has no bent or dirty terminals. Have tried with different, working compact flash cards and without any CF card at all. Carefully removed back case and inspected. The CF interlock microswitch appears to work. Can measure 4 AA (6 vdc) voltage at several terminal points. The internal, button battery tests at 3.5 vdc with a voltmeter. Any expert troubleshooters out there with ideas, or suggestions from a Canon Service Manual? Perhaps this problem has been solved for other "A" series Canon cameras? I want to fix it myself, since value of camera is not worth the $200 charge that repair shops typically charge. Thanks in advance, Cal
The only advice I can give is to check for a fusible link close to where the battery cables connect to the PCB. Look for a component with an F prefix eg f1001 or f001. I never desolder the fuse if it's open circuit, I just break a glass type fuse and solder the wire across the surface mount component. Just make sure the fuse wire is the same value as the original.
