Frost on the evaporator

The freezer temperature was around 12 degrees. Repairman came and replaced freon yesterday. Now the temperature is hovering around 22-24 degrees and I looked at the back of the freezer and noticed that one side of the evaporator is warm but the other side has frost on it and the tube coming out of it also has frost. Called the repairman just now, and he said it's probably because he put too much freon in. Will putting too much cause the temp to rise? And why the frost on one side?

Watch this video I made. this is subzero with low level of freon (almost out). same situation on all refrigerators and freezers. you can see ice at the begging of evaporator. if there would be a little more freon evaporator might of frost up at the top might frost half of evap other half would be not even cold.

If one side is frozen and the other is not in the evaporator, if may need more freon.

SOURCE: Freezer/refrigerator

Refrigerators with an evaporator (called a humid plate on this type of refrigerator) in the refrigerator section are called a semi-automatic defrost. This means that the freezer section occasionally needs defrosting but the refrigerator section defrosts by a means called "heat leakage defrost". How it should work....
the cold control, (the electrical device under the dial), leaves the compressor off for long enough for the plate to melt off each cycle.
If yours is not melting off perhaps you have a faulty control or you have it set too high. hope this help

SOURCE: Ice build-up on the inside top of of freezer door

yea def , not normal, nor an acceptable amount of ice forming there( good pic). heres what i have been told to try and with good results
first make sure the door gasket is sealing all the way,(small gaps in ht emagnets at extreme corners) is common but with a little amount of "mortite"or "permagum can sometimes be insterted behind the corner of gasket to assist filling the void.
second a small amound of a white/clear silicone be applied to the outer perimtere of gasket, to minmize air movemnt from between gasket and door panel.
lastley in oyour second pic i see "frost free" written on a plastic air deflector. you can remove that with 3-4 screws on backside of it, and then reinstall with a small spacer so as the baffle now with sit with a 3/8in. gap between it and the top of the freezer liner.( a brass ferrel from the compression fitting of a plumbing fitting is just the right size)..... the theory behind this is to prevent the air from gatting "trapped" in the void created when the door closes-- air can now pass back and forth freely.
I hope this gives you some satisfaction if not I would advise another tech be sent who is willing to call for factore tech support( ths is where i got my info from)

SOURCE: Can't get alarm to turn off while temperature stabilizes

My wife solved it for me :-) You turn the alarm off with a switch at the bottom. The alarm turns off, but the light stays red for another 4 hours. After that the red light goes off too, and you can turn the switch back on without the alarm going off, if the freezer is back to operating temp.

Damper not closing and ice melting'

Can you remove the rear panel in the back of the freezer so you can have a look at the frost pattern of the evaporator. I need to eliminate a Freon leak Karen? Has the compressor been running all the time? The damper will open all the way when temperatures increase, it is trying to keep temperature colder in the fresh food section by allowing colder air from freezer to enter fresh food section. What is the freezer temperature? Thanks Sea Breeze

Compressor runs bypassed thermostat with wire that turns on and off compressor, but freezer cabinet is not cold 65 degrees evaporator fan does not turn on,condensor fan on,sttill no cold

If you have just turned it on it takes awhile for the fans to come on. The evaporator coil has to get cold about (10 to 20 degrees) and make a klixion fan switch to turn the fans ON.... Is the evaporator coils getting a frost pattern on them??? If not then the system may be low of Freon.. If the coil is completely froze up and you are getting frost back to the compressor..... then you have a bad fan switch or a door switch.... If you have a wiring diagram you can trace out the wiring.... It is usually down by the compressor or control panel... hope this helps.

Freezer temperature came up to about 35 degrees. We took all food out. Temperature is holding around 32 to 35 degrees. This is on the colder setting that used to read around 0 degrees. What do I need to...

If there is frost on the back of the freezer then there is a defrost problem. If no Frost then i would advise you to take the back off the freezer and see if there is any frost on the coils. If no then the compressor is insuffecient and or no freon.

DO NOT TRY TO MODIFY TIMING CYCLE.you would need to completely modify printed circuit board and inbuilt computer......some freezers cycle around 6 to 8 hours.the temperature can only be checked say every 12 hours to get an average reading

I have a stand alone freezer model MFU17F3GW8 serial # WB11907298 my problem is that it does not get cold enough. what could be the problem?

. Cut everything off for a few minutes then turn it back on and listen for a click from the compressor relay as the compressor tries to start.
Is the compressor motor running. If no check starter/overload relay.

Are the condenser coils on the back warm or room temp. should be warm

How to check stuff>
http://www.acmehowto.com/howto/appliance/refrigerator/refrigerator.php

evaporator coils are behind the rear cover inside the freezer at the bottom.
observe the frost pattern. Light frost everywhere(NORMAL) or a partial pattern of ice(LOW ON FREON) or nothing(LOW FREON OR COMPRESSOR PROBLEM).
Compressor or freon problem will require a repairman.

My freezer will not hold temperature. Only a year

If what you say is accurate, I would look at either a weak compressor or and issue with the expansion device. (Cap tube, TXV)
What are your pressures and what freon are you using? Does the door(s) seal tight?

Freezer FF20DSERWH

IF THE FROST ON THE EVAPORATOR ISN'T ACROSS ALL OF THE COILS, THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE SEALED SYSTEM. NORMAL OPERATING TEMP IS ZERO DEGREES FAHRENHEIT. THE FROST ON THE EVAPORATOR SHOULD BE THIN AND UNIFORM. IF IT IS HAIRY AND ONLY COVERING PART OF THE COILS, THEN YOU HAVE A SYSTEM FAILURE. IT COULD BE A LEAK AND LOSS OF FREON, A RESTRICTION, OR A WEAK COMPRESSOR.
