How do you get closed captioning off of Magnavox tv 27ms3404r - there's no cc on the remote

We lost the remote to this tv and can't removed the closed captioning. We put this on another remote that works with the vcr too. We know the menu can come up when we push the buttons on the front of the tv but there seems to be no closed captioning option. We need help - tired of having much of the screen covered with closed captioning now for over a month! Thanks for any answers.

SOURCE: cant turn off caption on tv

There are several universal remotes on the market that can be programmed to work this function on your TV, one that comes to mind are the Logitech Harmony remotes. The great thing about this remote is it will work for any device in your house. The down side is they are 100$+.

Now if you simply want to turn off CC with the remote, and then take it back to the store, then that could work too! ;)

Another option would be to leave the TV completely unhooked for a while, hoping to "clear" and memory on the TV, resetting closed captioning back to the factory default. A lot of older TV's also would have a reset button, usually behind and door that could accomplish this. There is no guarantee that this would even work though. I think the safest bet would be a new universal like the Harmony.

Cheers!

SOURCE: Turning off Closed Caption

Are you using a cable/satellite box or just basic cable service?
When you go to the menu what options become available to you?

If the following options are present-
picture
smartlock
setup
cc

If not try to press both the volume buttons on the front of the TV at the same time and see if the above options become available.
If so use the channel down button on the front of the tv to scroll to "cc"

Once CC is highlighted use the volume + button until it says CC off.

If these menu options don't become available please reply what options are shown.

Good Luck.
