sounds like your green tube is overloading. overdriving...this could be a number of things relating to high voltage driving the green tube. tube replacement in thes sets have become not cost effective. tube about 250 for the tube plus anothe 200 for labor. might be high voltage block or the crt driver board.

The RCA D52W20 has three picture tubes the problem you describe is symptomatic of a shorted or a bad green tube. other problems could be bad crt boards. high voltage block, In the case of tube replacement i often suggest the cost of replacement is more than the set is worth. so i would suggest getting a second technicains opinion

can you pull the green crt board and carefully check to see if the 200volt supply is present that one cause for over satuations of the crt if it is not there you need to trace back for the cause

I would go back to green tube disconnect ,unplug CRT board to green tube if set stays up playing its the tube.

Sounds like the green CRT has a short.If you unplug the socket from the green CRT tube (the one in the middle) and power up the TV and it stays on then it will verify that you need a new green CRT.

Check CRT board the Video IC on it can be bad so you do not have to replace Tube be Very carefull when you remove CRT board from Neck of Green Tube so you do not Breck it. Check all 3 tubes make sure none of them are leaking out coolent fluid.

From your description it does sound if the blue crt has failed. But it can be the crt board or a high voltage issue. intermittantly like that could be a connection problem. is there any hissing ..cracking or smells?
