I tried to scan something to my computer this morning and got a message that said "you need to install or run HP software for this." When I go to "set up", "help" and then "troubleshoot" I get a message that says "Requires installing and running HP software on a connected computer to view help topic." This is the weird part. We bought and installed our first 7410 in my computer about 3 or 4 years ago. Since then, HP has replaced it with a refurbished unit at least twice.
I went into printer properties and tried to reconnect to the 7400 series driver, but I get a message that says "HP7400 series printer driver is not installed in this computer." Why would it suddenly just disappear today when it was there and worked fine yesterday? How do I fix this with out having to go and buy a new? Does anyone know if HP make a reasonably priced All-In-One that isn't garbage?
I use my printer wirelessly and had this same problem 2 times. My brother, who is a professional networker, solved it both times. Basically, you have to go to the set up help menu and to the network settings. Print the HP Network Configuration page and see what your printer is showing for the IP address. Then you have to go into My Network Places on your computer. Click on Printers and Faxes. Find your HP 7400 officejet and rightclick on it. Click on properties and then go to the Port tab. Click on the port for your HP officejet and click on configure port. This should tell you the IP address your printer is configured to. If the IP addresses do not match exactly, you need to match to IP address of your computer to the one on the printer. If you cannot change the IP address on the configure port page, you need to go back and click on add port. Type in the correct IP address from your printers configuration page in add port and click apply. Your printer should now be able to read your computer.
I hope this helps.
Hello
1. you can download the hp software and scanning program here
http://h20180.www2.hp.com/apps/Lookup?h_lang=en&h_cc=us&cc=us&h_page=hpcom&lang=en&h_client=S-A-R163-1&h_pagetype=s-002&h_query=HP+7410+&submit.x=6&submit.y=9
you your exact printer and download the full software drivers, then install it.
2. your printer can have a hardware failure thats why the printer cant scan anymore. or your windows has some virus or some files have disappeared.
3. try solution1
4. I recommend HP printers in front of all other,if you buy a more costly printer you get a better one. thats the "rule". I think the hp is the best product of all in one printers you can get for your money.
if you want a officejet the HP OFFICEJET L7680 ALL-IN-ONE good choice.
I think I got all your questions?
good luck

I had the same problem just start, but with a Dell Photo AIO Printer 924.
I have the same problem many times and thought it was just my computer playing a trick on me. I had installed the original program several times already. Yesterday my husband's computer (which is a MAC) had the same.... Now I know it is not my computer but the printer. Is HP dooing anything about this?
Suddenly, my computer no longer detects the printer (HP 7410).
I reinstalled printer driver. Installation Assistant also does not detect printer. Not even when connected by USB.
Must be a problem with the printer itself, as stated above perhaps the hardware has malfunctioned?
On a Mac -- printer works fine when printing or faxing. Scanning did not work. My 7410 is a mere 3 months out of warranty. Research online suggests that many people, both Windows and Mac users are having this problem. There is no way HP cannot be aware of it. They are just not offering a fix. I attempted their suggested fix on their tech support site -- uninstalling the software and drivers; repairing permissions; reinstalling their SW and drivers. It did nothing except waste my time. I tried to call today. I got so far as the tech telling me that since the printer is working, it is not a hardware problem. I knew that. The software has bugs. He then wanted $35 to "help" me because a problem is probably specific to MY computer (not macs in general). I declined, saying that I would attempt to ask through online help. Sent an email and did not even receive an "auto reply" from HP. Don't know if I'll ever be answered. This is my second HP printer that turned to junk. If anyone comes across a fix, could you please post it on here? Thank you.
I have had that problem of the software disappearing on my computer for months. I spent over 1-2 hours with technical support over the Internet to resolve this problem, but to no avail. I think in the future I will after two purchase from HP's competitors because HP seems to have some ridiculous problems. This is not the first time I've got a ridiculous problem with an HP machine.
