Ok - I've had this for almost one week, and ready to throw out the window. I've been on the phone with Best Buy, Insignia and Rhapsody. The box stated that it worked with Windows 95, 98, ME, and up. It may, but the Best Buy software does not.
I've got windows ME. I was finally told by one CS guru to copy and paste in windows ME instead of drag and drop. This works once. When I erase the player, and copy and paste, and then unhook and look at it, I've got the music. When I hook it back up to copy more music, the files are on the drive (when viewed in explorer, but not there when I try to play them (not showing up on the a track list, play list, etc.).
I've got XP at work, so I used the best buy software (not impressed with it) and got a bunch of music on there. But I"m not at work on the weekends. It seems that if I want to put any music on this player at home, I have to wipe it, change to file folder mode, and then I've got one shot?
Is there any music management software I can use at home, while in regular (not file folder mode) that I can continue to build my library that I created at work? I've tried media monkey, and while it works in file/folder mode, again I've only got one shot. After I unplug, check to see the files are there, which they are, and then plug back in again to transfer more music... again I can see it in Explorer but the mp3 player is not showing the music in the play list, artists, unknown... it is nowhere to be found. It is there, but I just cannot see it.
Ok, I admit - this is my first mp3 player. I'm ready to throw it out the window and sing to myself. HELP!!!
When using your media player... you need to first figure out if you are using windows media player 9 or windows media player 10. Also what windows are you using on your computer, that makes a difference as well... Make sure you have the mp3 player plugged in properly and then...Once you are in your windows media player go to your lib tab... soon as you are in there then on the right side there should be section on where you could build a lib list. Meaning you should be able to pick the songs in your lib and just drag them over. On the bottom you should see something that says sync... Once you've choose your songs and dragged them over... all you should have to do is press the sync button and it will do all the work for you from there. And it should let you know when its complete...mine does. Hope I could help you.
if the music was not odtained from a legal source then sometimes it will not sort itself out on the mp3 player, because the info on it is imcomplete, it will only show up on SHOW ALL SONGS, SONGS, or whichever the folder is that shows all the songs on the device.

It may not be anything you are doing wrong. You will have to see how your player is seen buy your computer. Go to your control panel -> System -> device manager --> Look for your player there, does it show up as a Portable Device?NOTE: The player should show up on the Device Manager's right pane as: 1. USB Mass Storage device (if the player is set to MSC) 2. Portable Device (if the player is set to MTP mode.)It should sync with Media player if it shows up as a Portable device - but if it shows up as a Mass storage device all you have to do is drag and drop what you want into the right folder on the player.
Have you tried changing the cable to another one you know works or have you reinstalled your players drivers?
if you haven't done so, try to uninstall the drivers for your device and then reinstall them. With the player plugged into your usb, open up your Device Manager.
for XP, right click your MY Computer on the desktop and select Properties, click the Hardware tab, click on the Device Manager button. Im not a Vista user but on there I believe you open the Properties on My Computer still, then on the left side of the System Information window, click the Device Manager link.
(or hold Windows Key and press the Pause key to open DM)
Once in the DM, locate your player. Usually under the Universal Serial Bus Controllers. It may be named Mass Storage Device or something else. If you cant recognize it in the list, unplug it an plug back in while looking at all the USB deviced currently installed.
If you see no changes at all as you plug/unplug your player then you may have another problem.
1. Plug your Kix MP3 player into the USB port.
2. In Windows, open File Explorer (right-click Start, select Explore).
3. In File Explorer, open Insignia KIX, Fixed Storage, Music.
4. Select and delete any undesired songs and/or folders, except the Music folder.
Re-download the software, reformat the player, OR get the latest firmware upgrade - any one or combination of these methods should work. check Insignia website for more details.
You can thank Microsoft for creating Digital Rights Management.
Okay...I'm assuming this is an MP3 that you loaded using the Rhapsody-to-go or other music service that allows for subscription music.
What the MP3 player is telling you is that because you have subscription music and not purchased music, the DRM allows you to only play the song or songs 30-90 days after download. To continue to listen to the songs, you will need to open your Media Manager software (Best Buy Digital Music Service, Rhapsody, WMP11, Media Monkey, etc) connect your MP3 player to the PC, identify the MP3 player through the media manager and tell it to re-authorize your tracks. Once its finished you'll be able to play your songs for another 30-90 days. You will need to repeat this re-authorizing to continue to play the tracks.
For the Insignia NS-DA1G, NS-DA2G, KIX, NS-DV2G, NS-DV4G:
These units come set to a FAT formatting. If you have changed this to NTFS or DOS, you will cause problems with your player. Be sure it is formatted correctly.
If you have formatted your player to FAT (recommended), FAT-16, or FAT-32, try using the software reset in the MENU - Settings area of the players internal software.
