Do You know how much this would cost and what it would and should cost to have someone replace this for me?
There is a transistor that is the pre amp for the amplifier , volume control IC and headphones that has quit and needs to be replaced
the transistor is only a few dollors but if it went some other components in the circut will have to be replaced , but also very cheep parts , and the cost of the repair can be different depending the service center. also the volume IC should be replaced , and this chip cost about $20
the transistor is the pre amp that sends the audio signal frequency's to the volume chip , then from there it goes to the amplifier or to the headphones
yes the input A/V , because the input audio( on its own transistor) goes to the volume chip then the amplifier
and the tv tuner goes thru its transistor pre amp
for right now you could hook up the RCA A/V jacks from the cable box to the audio/video input on the tv to get sound, and untill you can get it fixed
Oh yea and the volume IC also controls the input audio selection , tuner , a/v1 , a/v2 , dvd ect...to be amplified
it does have to have this transistor to amplify the audio frequency that comes from the tuner
if the tuner was locking up then you were lucky it didn't go , we have to replace those as well
but sometimes the only problem with the tv's are that they just need some new solder
that may be happening to your tuner , because when you have to screw in the cable , you move the tuner ,or the cable gets pulled on, so the tuner can get a bad connecttion that way
here is an example of the tuner and the transistor

Open your TV menu. You should able to access this from your remote control.Find the sound option. Open the sound option and look to make sure your Television speakers are on. Also check to make your TV is set to Stereo. Not SAP..If you are watching local programming then you should change channels then adjust volume. You should check the output of the device that you are expecting sound to come from...Eg..DVD PLAYER VCR..etc..Check all audio inputs and outputs making sure they are making proper connection. Good luck

What is the name for this part as well?
I have another issue with the no volume.
I have been playing around with the TV to see if I can get sound etc.. I decided to turn on my DVD player and test a DVD out as well, when I do turn it on the DVD Player plays the movie and it gives me the volume fine!! But only when I'm using the DVD player that is hooked up to the TV! I then try to change the DVD Player mode back to tv mode and it will display the tv show but then it will have no volume? So the tv has sound but only when the DVD player is play a movie, when i use the cable box to watch tv it has no sound, can this still be a transistor problem?
HELP>>>>
Okay, problem resolved....
The cable box is the problem and not the tv....
The cable must have jammed and needed to be unpluged and replug and reformat and that was the problem... if you get sound while watching your DVD Player and the volume is coming from the tv speakers it's not your tv...
So the transistor was not the issue, the tv does not have this anyways I was told?
