USB Device not recognized?

I was going to sychronize some songs on Windows Media Player, but when I put in the my MP3 it said 'USB device not recognized' so I looked around, tried reattaching the MP3 a few times and it still didn't work. The worst part is the when I took out my MP3 it still had a blue screen that said 'MTP Connected'.I tried turning off the device and it wouldn't do anything. My MP3 was working fine before I had connected it,also. So what can I do to get my MP3 working again?Or should I just replace it?

If your computer is windows xp Go into your control panel, press system, then hardware, then device manager. Your mp3 player is the item that should have a yellow ! next to it. Click it then up the top of the box there is a computer with a cross through it. Click that then press yes and let it uninstall, then unplug your mp3 player then plug it back in, re-install it and voila!

You have to try diffirent ports on your computer also take the battery out and put it back in, and if there is a reset button reset it.

Concerning the GPX mw3836. I had the same problem. Mainly because I pulled the Unit off the USB cable while it was still active. Evidently it's not like a thumb drive where you can yank it out immediately after file transfer is finished. It's too delicate. Be sure to deactivate it before disconnecting. Shutdown the computer if you must to be sure. Inconvenient yes but effective. My solution was to buy another one and not make the same mistake. It works fine on a system using MTP Media Player 10. I gave the old one away to someone using a newer system. I'm using Win 98-SE and have no desire to update, but problems like this are bound to come up with newer gadgets.

I have Vista and I'm not really sure if I did this right, but it totally worked for me. I have a Creative Zen and when I went to use it for the first time, my computer wouldn't recognize the device. So, I tried plugging a simple memory stick into the USB and my computer wouldn't recognize that, either. This is what I did to fix it:

1. I restored my computer to a date before I installed the Creative Software (I'm not sure that this is a necessary step, but I did it just to be sure). You can get directions on how to do this from the Windows website. Make sure you backup or save any data that you don't want to lose and that was added after the date to which you are going to restore your computer. 2. I went into Device Manager (in the Control Panel) and uninstalled all the Universal Bus Controllers that had error messages. I did this simply by right-clicking the error message (It has a yellow triangle with an exclamation point next to it) 3. I went into Add Hardware (also in the Control Panel) and started the Wizard 4. I selected to add hardware manually 5. I selected IEEE Bus Host Controllers and reinstalled them. 6. I reinstalled the Creative Software I hope this helps!!!

When connecting to my pc via usb, i would get the connection sound but couldn't find the drive in "my computer". i just connected to a different usb port as suggested above and it worked :)

Mine was solved by using a shorter, heavier, USB cable. Even though my retractable USB cable works for my phone and other MP3 player, it doesn't work for this one.

I hope it works, also I was thinking about it!!

For MP3 players that directly attach to a USB port i.e. without a cable (I have the Samsung 512MB YP-U1), the 'USB device not recognized' problem can be fixed by buying a USB cable (male/female) and using it to connect to your computer. I suspect the flimsy rotating USB connector on the MP3 player is preventing a proper connection. I tried using a cable and it resolved the issue immediately and I've never had a problem since!

I solved the problem on my win98se OS by using the drivers from GPX from another mp3 player ( MW6347DT ). Before, it did not find the pci to usb drivers, etc. Now, all the proper drivers are being found.
The MW6347DT driver for win98 can be found here:

You should go on Settings, USB Mode, then go on a diffrent USB mode. The blue screen remaind because you pulled the cored without disconnecting it withe the Safely Remove Software button on your computer. You can try to hold down the button for 50sec to restart the MP3.

I had a the same problem with my mp3 player. what i did was connect the device to a different computer. The device was recognised and then I reconnected it to the other computer which could not recognise my mp3, and it worked!

Dont ask me why, I tried all the above but nothing worked for me. It may have just been lucky...but give this a go before u decide to buy a new device or cable.

(if u dont have a second computer this wont work ha).

I have 2 faulty samsung z5s with this problem. They also both do not hold a battery charge well.

I am wondering whether the usb connector is not getting enough power.

Do your players hold a good battery charge?

USB Device not recognized?

Uninstall the MTP Device in the control panel of your desktop using the add/remove hardware wizard.

Possible firmware upgrade issue.
Reset first - located on side of player. If that fails, Creative actually has a step by step tool you can use at:

Sansa trouble recognizing/ synching

What i would recommend you to do is to uninstall the device and reinstall it back...tou uninstall it...assuming that you are running windows xp1.gif...click on start, right click on my computer and go to properties..you should have your system properties open then click under hardware then device manager...look for the sansa device..it usually located under portable device..if its not showing there i would recommend you to look for under disk drives1.gif and see if its there..right click on the device and click on uninstall...after you unintall it unplug your device from the computer and check to usb mode..it has to be under MTP mode or auto....after you check the mode open up your windows media player click on tools, options and click under privacy...clear the history and caches...after you finish you can plug the device on the back of the computer not the front then windows should recongnize it and it should work properly..if that doesnt solve the problems upgrade your windows media player to 11 even though you have done that already..let me know the outcome...

Won't Upload Songs

player has problems with windows media player 11. works with wmp 10. player also has problems with vista. firmware was designed for xp. no firmware updates available. you can try dragging and dropping through windows explorer, treating it as a usb mass storage device. it will play folders and songs this way. to get vista to recognize it, format the player through the player's menu ( set-system-format ) not through the computer. take out the battery for 15 minutes. reboot your computer. put battery back in. plug into usb port. hopefully vista recognizes it as usb device
