What you need to do is adjust shading. That recalabrates the scanner. To enter the machine into the tech mode you press " menu, # 1934" then you will be in the tech mode, a T should appear on the machine screen. You then go to machine setup and maintenance, then scroll to adjust shading or just shading, depending on how your specific firmware states it.
Then place 5 sheets of white paper on the glass, 5 pieces of paper think not spread out, then press start, if it askes you DO you want to asjust press start and let it run through the setup.
Once you have cleaned the scanner you really need to adjust teh shading. A better way to say it would be scanner calabration.

Did this help at all? What does the page look like if you run a copy with just the cover up? No paper on the scanner, just a dark dusting? Is it solid black?

Print quality is batter but copy quality is not batter horizontal lines come in copy

Clean the glass for the scanner. If you get lines only when copying usually it is dirt. If your copier has both an adf and a flat glass for scanning, scan from both and compare the quality.

Horizontal lines/missing print occurs on my pages. I have tried to reboot the printer, but the printing issues remain. Do I need to clean the print heads?

Follow these steps to make it work... TIP: Focus on the printer it self. make sure that it can copy (b&w and color) fine.
If your done reseting the printer go to the next step Solution #2 Clean the All-in-One and make a blank copy Before you begin, gather the following materials:
  • Several clean, soft, lint-free cloths
  • Mild glass cleaner
Step one: Clean the scanner glass and lid
  1. Press the power Button to turn off the product, and disconnect the power chord at the back of the printer.
  2. Open the scanner lid, and remove any originals from the scanner glass.
  3. Spray a clean, soft, lint-free cloth with mild glass cleaner.
  4. Wipe the scanner glass and the white underside of the scanner lid with the dampened cloth.
Step two: Clean the automatic document feeder ADF
  1. If the product is not already off, press the Power button to turn off the product, and disconnect the power cord from the product.
  2. Locate the ADF frame to the left of the white underside of the scanner lid.
  3. Press the ADF frame release.
  4. Unhook and remove the ADF frame.
  5. Lightly dampen a clean, soft, lint-free cloth with a mild glass cleaner.
  6. Use the dampened cloth to clean both sides of the transparent film, and the white strip in the center of the ADF frame.
  7. Clean the ADF frame.
  8. Re-Install the ADF Frame

Step three: Make a blank copy
  1. Remove any originals from the scanner glass.
  2. Load plain white paper in the input tray.
  3. Press Start Copy Black to make a blank copy.
  • If the copy is clean, there is no need to continue troubleshooting.
  • If the copy has vertical bands, lines, or streaks, there might be dust inside the product, poor internal connections, or the product might be damaged. Contact HP's Printers support department @ 1-800-474-6836

My printer window on the HP PSC 2175 continues to read: 'Press Enter to align cartridges' I have done this 5 or 6 times and the message will not go away. How do I fix this problem so it will print?

Perform the following steps to align the ink cartridges:
  1. Disconnect the power cord from the unit, wait five seconds, and then plug it back in. This will reinitialize the unit.
  2. Print another alignment test page. If the Press Enter to align message is not currently on the front panel display, complete the following steps to print an alignment page:
    1. Press Setup or Menu on the front panel (depending on the model).
    2. Press the right arrow button (>) until Maintenance or Tools is displayed, and then press Enter or OK (depending on the model).
    3. Press the right arrow button (>) until Align Print Cartridges is displayed, and then press Enter or OK (depending on the model).
  3. To determine if the automatic alignment is functioning correctly, look into the output tray as the alignment page is printing; a blue light should be visible periodically on the page as the cartridges move back and forth. If this light is not visible, the product will not be able to align the cartridges and will require service. Service the product.
  4. If the blue light is visible and the alignment pages are printing correctly, but the alignment pages still fails, there still may be a hardware problem with the unit.
    • If there are no other printing problems and you wish to continue, use the information in the Bypassing the ink cartridge alignment section below to bypass the alignment. The information from last successful alignment will be used.
    • If the message keeps reappearing or other print quality problems occur, service the product.
Models with a semi-automatic print cartridge alignment Some HP products have a semi-automatic alignment process. These models do not have an additional sensor and will print two pages for the alignment process instead of one. The alignment page must be placed on the scanner glass or into the automatic document feeder (HP Officejet V series) and scanned.
  1. Disconnect the power cord, wait five seconds, and then plug it in. This reinitializes the product and forces the scanner to calibrate again.
  2. Examine the scanner glass and white scan backing. Clean the scanner glass and scan backing if they are not clean. To clean the scanner glass and scan backing, use a soft cloth towel slightly dampened with clean water.
  3. With the product turned on, open the scanner cover and check the bulb assembly. If the scanner bulb is not lit, the product must be serviced.
  4. Verify that the alignment page is placed correctly on the scanner glass or in the ADF (if the product has one). Place the printed side down.
  5. 5. Make a copy of the alignment page. The unit will make a copy even if the alignment message is displayed. Compare the copy to the original. If vertical lines appear in the copy, check to see if the scanner assembly requires cleaning. If cleaning the scanner assembly does not correct the problem, service the product.
  6. 6. Use the information in the Bypassing the ink cartridge alignment section below to bypass the alignment. Operate the HP All-in-One to determine if there are other problems. The unit should be serviced if other error messages or problems occur or if alignment problems occur every time the ink cartridges are changed.
To bypass the ink cartridge alignment: Press and hold the Setup button, and then press Options (or Copy Options ).

My copies are not very dark

Is the problem only with copies? Does the machine also print light?
If is it copy only, remove the glass and clean the lamp and mirrors in the scanner.
If it is both copy and print, then you should clean the laser shield glass and replace the developer.

Light print on side of paper. color black copies, print, internal

Ninty-five percent of all image issues like this are caused by the carona-drum-toner assembly. I have not worked on this model but the only way to diagnose the issue is to try a new drum / toner cartridge and see what impact it has. Then once you resolve the issue you can discuss the service life after the fact.

Getting a black strip in copy mode on X6575 lexmark printer. No line in print or test mode

Most likely a page was scanned with 'white out' (Liquid Paper), still wet on the page. As the page feeds over the scanner, (a narrow strip of glass that runs across the width of the page along the feed path) the wet liquid paper comes off on the glass as a thin line and dries. Thereafter, when copying, the scanner light does not go through the liquid paper streak and the result when printed is a thin vertical line that runs the full length of the page.

If this is your problem: follow the path that the paper travels when sending a fax or making a copy, until you find the scanner (narrow glass strip). Take a clean, soft cloth and a small amount of methylated spirit (or white spirit) and remove the now dried Liquid Paper from the glass. Clean the whole strip ensuring that the glass is left clean and dry.

Adjustment for light copies on a xerox m20i

You will need to do a couple of things, 1 remove, disassemble the scanner and thoroughly clean it, and while you have the scanner out, remove and clean the laser.
The toner cartridge may also be defective. that metering blade in that cartridge fails and causes light images also.
If you need instructions on how to remove and clean the scanner and laser let me know, I will type them out to you.
Not hard, just time consuming.
If you print out a report how does that look? If prints look fine and just the copies are light, then the mirrors in the scanner head a re probably fogged up. All the plastic in that scanner causes that same film on your scanner optics as you develop on your car windshield. Same process.

Customers get my faxes with a line and when I print a copy, I as well get a thick line and 2 thin lines on my copies. I have an HP officejet 6210 All in one. R0037 Service ID # 17039 Serial #...

hello
try and put a clean sheet of paper on the scanner glass and make a copy of it.

if the copy has lines on it and the copy glass is perfectly clean, no streaks or scratches on the glass where the lines appear on the copy.

check on the internal optics and sensor for something on them. if they are perfectly clean then the sensor or the internal logics have a failure and need replacement or repair.

i truely hope there is a piece of lint or paper or something somewhere in the light path so all you have to do is clean it up.

Light Print

6b1645a.jpgThe button circled in red is the darkness/lightness button for the copier. The normal option should have a light beside it. If that light is on then maybe try setting it to darker? Hope this helps.

Facing copying problem from scanning section

Although you didn't specify the scanner model, this solution should work.

If the scanner has a top feeder, open it.

You will see a thin strip of glass, either to the left, or right of the large scanner glass.

There is most likely a small spec of ink, white out, etc on it.

Clean the strip glass with rubbing alcohol and the line should go away.
