Most dryers have 2 elements, one for low, and one for medium. High heat is both elements together. My guess is that your medium element has failed and you are only getting low heat.

Test with a multimeter or call for service.

Sounds as though you have a fault in the heating system, it could be a short in the wiring to the heater or it may be the heater itself which as fault. While the machine is waiting to heat the water it will not advance through the program

The thermostat and element are mounted on the back wall of the dryer. To gain access you must remove the drum. Here is my home movie:

check the switch is working then go to the heating coils and check there working ok the next thing to go to is the heat censor inside above the door if this is not working you wont get any heats at all,

call in hotpoint

Did you ohm out the thermal overload?

Things that could stop a electric dryer from heating:
- house fuse or breaker ( needs two of them ), heating element, burnt wire, thermostat(s), thermal fuse ( not all models ), motor heat switch, timer, selector switch, burnt power cord/plug.
A ohm meter test for these parts is here.
