Hello,
I have a JVC HDILA model HD 56G 787. I love this TV more than any I have ever seen. However, I have recently (in the last couple of months) noticed slight gray spots near the middle and near top of the screen. The spots are not TOO dark, but can be seen on a white or light colored screen. It almost looks like there is dirt or dust on the screen, but the screen is spotless. Have you heard of this, and what do you think can be done about it? Also, the lamp has been replaced about 2-3 month ago, but it think that it was doing this even before the lamp was replaced. I appreciate any insight. Thank you.
1 large gray spot in the lower middle of the screen. I, too, just recently changed the bulb and that's when it started. I've tried cleaning the bulb but that didn't change anything.
The HD-ila sets accumulate a lot of dust in the light engine. The worst offender is the little fold mirror just under the lens. I take my set apart about every 8 months or so to clean all the dust from the light tunnel and all lenses, mirrors, diffusers etc. The picture really regains it's pop when this is done. Unless you are a skilled technician though, I would recommend against attemptimg this procedure as you need to disconnect the individual color lcds. Check with a local service center to get it properly cleaned.
How did you open you set , i tried opening it but there is nothing inside ?
How to clean the mirrors and 3 color chips inside my jvc hd-56zr7j , cause there is grey dots all over the screen .? i bought this tv a week ago and i bought a lamp for it and it works great but the picture is a bit faded , and there is grey patches all over , i thought it was the lamp cause there is small dots inside it , but then the lamp only emits light into the mirrors so i dont think that thats the problem , what do you think ?
The whole light engine slides out of the back of the TV. Remove the lamp, lower back panel, chassis screws, the silver metal support plate and 3 wire connectors and the unit should slide right out.

Spots on the screen/picture can be caused by three things. Dust on the inside of the screen, on the mirror or in the light engine or optical block. The first two can be corrected by you if you can gain access to the interior. If it is the third (light engine. it will require a technician. I have the same problem, with gray spots that are dispersed across the screen and am accumulating more and they are getting larger. They are not that noticeable except with light/white backgrounds on the screen, but are very annoying now with the NHL Playoffs and the spots are getting worse. Would you think this is covered under my extended 4 year warranty that covers normal wear and tear? The set is just over 2 years old.
