The same thing happened to me, i dropped my iron and before it hit the floor i caught it by the cord, it started smoking and smelled like an electrical fire so i assume it shorted out.. i just wanted to make sure the company was aware of the problem but when i tried the SharkCo.com website I found that it is no longer available. back to Sunbeam for me

I always purchase your Product and Irons. I like your product very much. so please provide me with address to sent this Iron back for repair. It has always made the lights in the room whenever I Iron go on and off. Also shuts off and on during ironing, then and water leaks from the iron. " Please Help"

My wife has the Shark X-tended Steam Burst Iron with the same shorting out in the power cord. A very easy repair of about 30 minutes.
Remove the 4 screws in the back cover plate.
Pry out the 2 rubber coated resting pads on the bottom of the cover plate to expose 2 additional screws.
The cover plate will lift off exposing the wiring and power cord
Remove 2 screws that attach the brace that pinches the cord to the iron frame.
Remove 2 screws that connect the power cord. (note which wire, ribbed or smooth, is attached to which screw.
Cut the power cord just above where the brace pinches the cord.
Crimp a connector to each wire and attach the power cord as it was before.
Attach the brace which supports the chord and then attach the 6 back cover plate screws.
Insert the resting pads back into the cover plate.
Your shorted out power cord should now be fixed and you just saved yourself $50 or $75 bucks.

What did you use to remove the screws from the back cover plate?

My shark steam iron is leaking when ironing

It is quite possible that this is a defect in the shark G1490F... I had the same problem and it was a crack in the water holding tank caused by tightening the two front screws (hidden) that hold the tank to the base... It seemed fine at first but after a full heating it developed a crack where it had been weakened when it was assembled... I suggest returning it or if warranty is up , throw it away and get something else..

fill with water turn iron on max keep turning steam dial all the way to the right until you get to self clean hold iron horizontal and make sure you have a towel or something to catch water drips and debris coming out of iron let iron steam and spit water out until it stops on its own turn dial back to regular steam settings wipe residue off of the plate with a towel adjust temp settings back to normal

Paid $50.00 for Shark model G1405Z. It lasted 3 weeks.

WalMart would have replaced it with or without a receipt for an identical priced product. You can take the bad one back with the receipt and ask for a refund, provided they ARE identical. The barcode is scanned onto the receipt.
