Cd tray not staying closed

When I put in a cd in my Memorex MKS5001 player the tray will not stay closed to play the cd, it just opens back up. I do not see any foreign object in the track of tray that might be keeping it from staying close. How can I tell if the laser / cd reader is working?

    Thanks Electech1,

I had tried that before and it did not work but this time it did. What could have cause my problem with the tray not staying close even if it didn't have a cd in it. I want to try to prevent this from happening again. It seemed like the open / close button was out of sync.

My family and I really enjoy our Karakoe player.

Again thanks and God Bless you

Gently push the cd door back in while pushing the door closed button , untill it closes if it still comes out then the cd laser mechanism is not lifting or something else has happened , then it will need to be tested to determine the exact cause

  • jason Oct 16, 2008

the door closes but NOT strong enough to LIFT the LASER MECHANISM which the cd sets on when spinning. this could be the cause of a slipping belt or weakening motor

I have a CDX-602 CD Player. I was on a gig the other night I placed a cd in the tray. I pressed the button to close the tray and a cord was wedged so that the tray would not close. Naturally the tray...

The gears have probably come out of sync, meaning the tray is riding on the limit switch. You need to remove the deck, dismantle and re-sync the drawer mech. Check the limit switch isnt bent, it's quite flimsy

Cd tray stays open

There could be damage to the tray contact switches
(these tell to the control unit the position of the tray - open/closed), so that the control unit can start/stop and reverse the direction of the tray ejector motor.

These contacts are located somewhere underneath the tray (usually near the front unit cover), and since you mentioned that the tray was bumped while it was open, it is possible they were damaged. Also, the behaviour of the tray suggests that the control unit can no longer tell whether the tray is open or closed so it operates the tray motor in a wrong manner, which, again, points to these same contacts as the possible cause.

Repairing the contacts may be a somewhat delicate procedure, first you need to locate them (it may require partial disassemby of the tray mechanism), if they are bent a pair of tweezers might do the job, if there's hard damage, it's probably better to replace them (scrapped CD ROM units or a dead CD unit might be a good source, they just need to be of the same dimensions).

There may also be other causes for this malfunction, i just mentioned the first thing that i would check.

Hope this helps somehow.

3-disk cd tray will open & then immediately close

I would suggest using Servisol Video 40 spray to clean any contacts inside the machine.

CD tray wont stay closed

Try using a CD cleaner. Generally this sort of problem occurs due to dust accumulating on the lens. The CD cleaner comes along with a solution.just spray on the CD and allow it to play in the CD drive. Sometimes the problem might even be due to a virus. Check whether your anti-virus is up to date.

Cd player keeps opening with cd in it

Some small item would appear to be obstructing complete closure
With the drawer open take a good look in side.
Also near the  open button you  should see a small pin hole[sometime on the back of the unit]
This is the emergency eject device in case you get a jam and is operated with the end of a paper clip.
give it a poke with the drawer open  then again closed
See what happens

CD opens and closes perpetually. CD won't play.

likely yes. does not sound like coincidence. try this: search ebay for an AS-IS item for $1 and use it for part-swapping. first to swap-the main circuit board holding the micro chip.
