Need Help with Leviton 5641 Combination Switch

Leviton 5641 Decora Combination Switch and 3-Way Switch. The single pole switch only functions when the 3-way switch is turned on, even though they're on different circuits. It's as if the 3-way is a "master" switch. Why? How do I change this?

run 14-2 wire to power switches, then run one 14-3 wire and one 14-2 up to fixture..you will have an extra neutral but its okay... just tie all nuetrals together....this gives you the needed 3 hot wires!

SOURCE: replacing a single pole switch

The old single pole switch has 2 black wires.
One black wire is hot from circuit breaker box, and the other black wire goes to load (light, fan, motor)

New device has black wire: connect this to hot from circuit breaker box.
New device red wire: connect this to load wire
New device has white wire: connect this to Neutral wires.
Neutral wires are white wires that are twisted together and covered with wire nut and pushed to back of box. If your box does not have neutral wires, then connect device white wire to bare ground wire.

Wiring a leviton 5641 so fan & light turn on separate with red & black wires

the 5641 is a dual switch for three way and single pole. If you want the switches to operate the CF. Connect the power to one of the two screws on the right side as you face the switch. then connect one wire to the screw on the bottom left side. connect the other screw to one of the two screws on the top left. This assumes the Red and Black you mentioned are the switch legs going to the CF.

How do I hook up a Leviton Decora no 5601... I have a white, a red, and a black wire

Wiring is unclear without more information.

Question posted under 4-way switch.
Wiring sounds like 3-way switch is possible.
And Leviton 5601 is single pole switch.

Add a comment and say what load the switch controls. Load means light, fan, motor, etc.
Say if another switch controls same load.
And include what type of device you are replacing.
Include what screws and screw colors are on old device.

When you add a comment, it sends email, and I will respond to comment.

I have the unit wired and it does not wotk.I have black to black, red to red green to ground and white to white, any thoughts? Thank you

Electrician test wiring before connecting anything.
First of all, you don't mention what type of switch was replaced.

1) Leviton 6230 countdown timer is made to replace single-pole light switch only.
Single pole is where 1 switch controls the Load (light fan motor)

Your wiring sounds like 3-way switch.
3-way is where 2 switches control same Load.
For example a hallway usually has 3-way switches.

To confirm. If old switch has 1 dark screw, 2 brass screws, and 1 green screw, then that is 3-way switch. Use Leviton LTB15, LTB30, LTB60, LTB02, LTB12 countdown timer for 3-way.
Smarthome sells product and shows .pdf manual
http://www.smarthome.com/4255/Leviton-LTB60-1LZ-4-Button-10-20-30-60-Minute-Countdown-Timer-Switch/p.aspx

2) If old switch has 2 brass screws and 1 green screw then that is single-pole switch.

3) If you are replacing single-pole switch, here are testing & wiring instructions for Leviton timer.
Remove device and separate wires for testing.
Use ordinary two wire tester.
Tape tester leads to wood sticks so hands are away from power.
Do not untwist wires that were twisted together before you started.
Turn on power.
Test each wire to bare ground wire.
Tester lights up on Hot wire. This wire will connect to timer black wire.
Now you know Hot wire.
Test Hot wire to each of the other wires, excluding bare ground wire.
Tester lights up on neutral. Timer white wire connects to Neutral wire.
If box does not contain Neutral wire, then timer white wire connects to bare ground.

Timer green wire connects to bare ground wire.
Timer red wire connects to wire going to Load.

How can I program my Leviton timer model 6651-I?

Leviton 6651 Manual.
http://waterheatertimer.org/pdf/Leviton-6651-manual.pdf
Timer requires a battery which should be replaced each 12 to 18 months.
Timer replaces single-pole or 3-way switch, and does not need a separate neutral wire.
Timer is for incandescent lights only.
500 Watt capacity
Push the door for manual override to reverse program that is in effect.

The 14 hour timing period is represented by 24 dip switches.
Each dip switch is positioned for ON or OFF.

Click the dip switch right or left
Start at the bottom
For example: ON for 3 hours, OFF for 4 hours, ON again for 3 hours:
Click dip switches 1 thru 3 to ON position, 4 thru 7 to OFF position, 8 thru 10 to ON position
ON position is to the right.
OFF position is to the left.

At the end of the 14 hour program, the timer turns lights OFF until the original start time is reached after 24 hours.
Timer will operate like this while in AUTO mode, until function switch is moved from AUTO to MAN or OFF modes.
Function switch is located at very bottom of timer door.
To activate program (on first day), function switch is set to OFF position for 2 seconds, and then move function switch to AUTO mode, and programming cycle begins.

I am trying to install Leviton Decora Combo 3-Way switches (#5641-A). The instructions that are printed on the interior of the package are beyond unhelpful. Can anyone explain to me how to install and wire...

Did the lights have the 3 way switch before?? If so, you should be able to follow the map on the package, remember it is totally unlike anything else in the house, I have seen grown electricians cry with 3 way switches in their hands. One of the wires is a jumper, you need 3 wires in each box, one hot , one neutral, one jumper, now depending on how the first guy did it, will determine what route you will take, I can't explain it over the fone here, but you should be able to see it when you know what you are looking at. Remember, one wire jumps, to the other switch, it will be on the same screw at the other end, the hot will be on the same screw at the other end, and the neutral will be on the same screw at the other end, hopefully. Sometimes they terminate the jumper at the light. So you might only have 2 wires on one side. Check it out, i hope this helps.

Hooking up a combination switch with outlet and another switch

ok, i think what you mean is a 3-way switch- meaning two different switches that control one light and a single (pole) switch that only controls one light. you can't do that with the above switch. You need a combination 3-way and single pole switch.
