Lost files with camcorder everio gz-hd7

I lost my files traying to do the back-up to my computer. I hope they still @ everio gz-hd7 camcorder hardrive, since I can't record more files because every time i press the button "record" a sign appear that the hard drive is full. Is there any way i can recuperate my files? They are a week work of shooting. I really will appreciate your help. I know that if I reformat I will lose all the data so, I don't want to reformat until I'm 100% sure that these files are lost for ever.

Thanks again

There is a chance that the files management problem is in the video folder in the camera hard-drive.

if that's the case you will be able to access the video folder from the PC,

here are the steps:
1- switch to still-image mode.
2- connect the USB cable.
3- turn on the camera.
4- choose "playback on PC".

Hopefully, you will be able to see something on your PC.

From my experience with Hard Drive based Camcorders.. you're best bet is to treat them like a computer.. use an application like Data Rescue II to recover the files from the camcorder.. once the files are recovered, reformat the HD on teh camcorder and you should be abel to start recording new footage again.

No disc for my JVC Everio GZ-HD7U

You don't need the disc. Buy Corel's latest videostudio x2 for editing. To extract the video files from camera just plug into computer with USB cable and search the camera for files.

My mac OS 10.5 driver (disc) for Everio GZ HD7 camcorder?????

Hey Brett, unfortunately FCP and iMovie are looking for a device over Firewire or a capture card (whichever you have set up). The driver off of the disk is actually quite useless under any Mac Os 10. Video editing programs unless older or PC based rarely use USB for video transfer hence why none of the apps are locating the camera. Unfortunately you'll have to transfer the files via USB as data and use a program like MPEGStreamclip to transcode them to a file format those programs will understand. JVC has released updated software but it seems to do nothing at all. I hope this helps.
P.S. you may need the MPEG 2 Codec to do the conversions wether you're using MPEGStreamclip or another application.

Transfering from jvc-hd7 to computer

You should be getting .tod files, not .mov files. The resulting files are of the type MOVxxx.tod, where xxx is a hexidecimal number. You then convert the .tod files (for PC's only) to .mpg files with the Cyberlink PowerDirector software that came with your camera (on the CD).

Hope this helps.
