I switched it off one night and when I tried to switch it back on the following day.... nothing happened.... no hum... no flashing lights... no error codes... nothing... just totally dead. I've replaced the power cable with one that I know works, however it still doesn't do anything. I've plugged something else into the power socket and that works. So I know it is something inside my printer... Please help.

Have you tried doing some maintenance like nozzle check,printing head alignment,clean the nozzles if not then try it by going into control panel - printers and faxes - where you see your mp730 right click and go to properties then click on the last tab which would be maintenance.Try those options if none worked then u might have to replace you print head and that should work

sounds like your mechanism is really unhappy..is this still under warranty, by chance?

Error also refers to the EEPROM for the printhead. I would reset the EEPROM and see if that helps.
