Could be a bad optical lens. Those laptops aren't made anymore so if you've been burning or playing disks for a few years, the lens could be cloudy/scratched and not reading anymore. Try a cleaner first, if that doesn't work, the drive is fairly easy and cheap to replaceCould be a bad optical lens. There are two ways toopen the CD drive door if the button just below the drive tray does not work. Go to My Computer and right click on the drive and click on Eject. If this does not work then you can manually open the CD drive tray by - Straighten a paper clip and gently insert it into a tiny hole below the drivetray next to the Eject button. Push the paper clip gently until the drive traypops out, then pull the tray until it is fully out, then you can remove the CDdisc. If you continue having problem opening with the Eject button, then the CD driveis faulty and needs replacing.
Try rebooting the system and insert the disk again. If this does not fix the problem, it may be a case of taking it to the local computer repair shop unfortunately as the most probable problem is a hardware issue, which could mean that a replacement drive is needed. If you possess an external DVD drive try using that.
Hello there: This sounds like to me that your cd rom device is going out on you when the disk gets stuck and refuses to come out what you can do is to get a paper clip and sraightren it out now look on the cd rom door and you will see a verry small hole if you press in on the door button and insert the paper clip in the hole when you see the light for the cd rom door turn on press in on the paper clip failrl hard and it will release the locking mechanism and the door will open for you. you can try to clean the entire tray and the slides tht the tray runs on get some canned air and spray the area really well on both sides and see if this helps If not that you may want to consider havaing the cd rom drive replaced ok Hope this is very help ful for you Best regards Michael
There should be an eject button next to the cd slot.there has to be,if its broken theres a small hole you can insert a paper clip and itll eject the cd.Buttton.But look for that button there small!!
-Eject the disc using software such as Windows Explorer or My Computer. -Turn off the computer and try again -Try ejecting the Disc in the System Setup; to go to setup; restart the computer then press F2 while the computer is booting yup -If all else fails contact manufacturer for possible replacement of disc drive.
Im a dell tech, and i hate those cdrom styles, but, that is what the consumer wants, so we make them. Try starting the machine, then press F2 to enter the BIOS. once in the bios, press the eject button. listen for any noises, (an attempt to eject). if you hear a sound, it means the drive should be capable of ejecting the disc, and perhaps the disc has not seated correctly. If the disc will not eject, you must contact Dell. This is from the DELL dcse site: "
Optical Drive
The XPS M1330 has a slot-loading optical drive instead of a conventional tray-loading module. There is
no mechanical eject mechanism for the drive to eject stuck discs. This means you must replace the drive if a disc
gets stuck in the drive. After replacing the drive, disassemble the old drive to remove the disc for the
customer."
Is the disk something other than what's listed below?CDRead: Max. 24XDigital Audio Extraction (DAE): Max. 12XWrite CD-R: Max. 24XWrite CD-RW: Max. 24XDVDRead (Single Layer / Dual or Double Layer): Max. 8X/6XWrite DVD+/-R: Max. 8XWrite DVD+R/-R Double Layer: Max. 4X/4XWrite DVD+RW: Max. 8XWrite DVD-RW: Max. 6XWrite DVD-RAM: Max. 5X
It is a 12X CD-R but the same happens with dvd's
