SOURCE: humming inside the switch

Is it connected to a fan motor also? - most dimmers are for lights only - if there is a ceiling fan connected you may experience a humming sound from the dimmer

SOURCE: Lutron Dimmer Not Dimming But On/Off Works

What is the dimmer rated for? Your load on the track appears to be 200 watts. A standard dimmer will burn out, you need to look on the dimmer to see what it is rated for. Did it run hot with the dimmer before you had this problem? They make dimmers for higher wattage that will do the job for you.

CAN NOT SHUT OFF LUTRON LIGHT. MOTION DETECTOR LUTRON. I CHANGED BULB NOW IT WON'T TURN OFF NO MATTER WHAT I TRIED.

It sounds like you blew the triac (the electronic switch) in the light. You will need to get a replacement module or a new light. Sometimes lightning will cause this. If it was a tungsten lamp they can have a large current surge when it fails.

LED lights controlled by Lutron Homeworks panel won't turn off and is getting very hot

If it worked before the Homeworks Panel has failed, if not it is probably wired incorrectly and may have been damaged. Recheck all connections if they are correct replace the Lutron device.

I have a Lutron Skylark SLV-600p and I want to connect it to control the ceiling fan with light fixture. The chain broke on the ceiling fan and its an old model which the device is inside the light box...

1) It appears this dimmer is not for fan motor.
Dimmer manual says:
"... do not use to control receptacles, fluorescent lighting fixtures, or motor-driven appliances."
http://www.lutron.com/TechnicalDocumentLibrary/030448c.pdf

2) Call Lutron tech support directly:
1-800-523-9466

3) You can replace the pull chain switch to the fan with a bit of dis-assembly and then purchase of new 3-way fan switch at home center. If you decide to do that, add a comment and we can talk details.

4) In order to get a fan-light control to operate from your switch location, you need the following things:
-Fan has to set on high, so unscrew brass part where chain attaches to fan and see if you can grab end of pull chain, and set fan to high.
-Switch box has to be set up to control the light and fan separately. It sounds like your switch box has that capability with a black wire going to light and red wire to fan.
-You need a Lutron combo control that is specifically for controlling ceiling fan, and light fixture.
Call Lutron for best choice.

Last option: 5) Replace fan with new one from home center.

Add a comment if you order the Lutron combo control and I will help you test the wiring and get it hooked up.

Generally dimmers don't last as long as ordinary light switch, because they are electronic instead of mechanical.

Lutron makes the widest selection of dimmers.

Use link above to identify dimmer.
For example Skylark dimmer.

Then google search for a replacement.
For example: single pole 600 watt lutron skylark dimmer
Or: 3-way 600 watt skylark dimmer
Lutron also makes 1800 watt dimmers for larger loads.

You said pendant lights blew out.
How many total watts were those lights?
Did you remove aluminum break-away fins on side of device to match wattage?

Front indicator can be pulled out to cut power to circuit.
This is called FASS switch.
Try pulling out FASS switch and then pushing it back to see if it re-sets device.
Click breaker on-off to see if it resets device.
You replaced a single-pole switch that has two wires plug ground wire.
Each wire from switch goes to either screw on MAW-600 so it's hard to go wrong there.
Bare copper goes to green ground screw.
Otherwise, it looks like tech support is next step: 1800-523-9466

How to program control with light switch

If I understand correctly, you have the Lutron Pico wireless control
And you have the Lutron Maestro companion switch or companion dimmer
Pico will not work with ordinary wall switch or dimmer >> it has to be a companion product from Lutron
eca3dbc.jpg

I have read the PICO wireless manual, and it shows no instructions for communicating with the companion wireless switch or companion wireless dimmer
http://www.lutron.com/Products/SingleRoomControls/MaestroWireless/Pages/Overview.aspx

http://www.lutron.com/TechnicalDocumentLibrary/369-144f_Pico_Wireless_Control_SpecSub%20%286%29.pdf

I have read the 120V Companion switch manual and it shows no instructions for communicating with the PICO wireless control
http://www.lutron.com/Service-Support/Technical/InstallationInstructions/Pages/InstallationInstructions.aspx?syst=Single+Room+Controls&prodn=Maestro+Wireless%C2%AE

http://www.lutron.com/TechnicalDocumentLibrary/030865c.pdf

1-800-523-9466 for technical support
Technical support online appears at page bottom

Normally manuals give you some clue as to how the product works.
The PICO manual says it's easy to control lights (I guess it's easy for mind-readers)
There seems to be no answer or hint when working with the PICO.
I think Lutron tech support is where you go from here.

Lutron dimmers throught the house, lights go high brightness to low all by themselves, is this just a bad dimmer?

I have spent considerable time on the Lutron site past couple days looking at their dimmers.

Lutron has a lot of dimmer varieties. The basic breakdown is 600Watt and 1000Watt. But different dimmers control different types of lighting.
Here is the long list of Lutron dimmer manuals:
Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 /* Style Definitions */ table.MsoNormalTable {mso-style-name:"Table Normal"; mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0; mso-tstyle-colband-size:0; mso-style-noshow:yes; mso-style-parent:""; mso-padding-alt:0in 5.4pt 0in 5.4pt; mso-para-margin:0in; mso-para-margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:10.0pt; font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-ansi-language:#0400; mso-fareast-language:#0400; mso-bidi-language:#0400;}

http://www.lutron.com/Service-Support/Technical/InstallationInstructions/Pages/InstallationInstructions.aspx?syst=Dimmers+%26+Switches&prodn=Maestro%C2%AE+dimmer+%26+switch

I cannot find a specific troubleshoot manual for Lutron dimmers
So I suggest 4 things:
1) Feel the dimmer switch for heat >>> if it is getting hot (not warm), then that dimmer is dangerous, so remove dimmer immediately, add up your total bulb wattage to make sure you're below the 600 or 1000 watt capacity of you model dimmer
2) Look at the list of manuals shown at link, and make sure your dimmer matches the type of bulb you are using. Your dimmer model number and wattage should be printed on side or back of dimmer.
3) These dimmers use electronics to control the lights. Electronics go bad. The higher the wattage controlled by your dimmer, the more heat, and the shorter the dimmer life.
4) Short in the wires. Replace your dimmer with one from Home Depot and see if the condition persists. If it does, then a short is probably somewhere in that circuit. Troubleshooting a short is another long answer that needs more wiring detail ... please repost if you have a short.

How to install

Lutron S2-LFSQ is made to control one ceiling paddle fan & 1 light. Switch will not work on florescent lights.
See manual

To use this product, your fan and light must already be controlled by 2 separate switches.

If you have just one switch that turns on the light & fan together, the S2-LFSQ will not work (without additional wiring).

Okay, you have two switches. One switch turns fan on-and-off. The other switch turns light on-and-off.

Here is wiring diagram from manual: See diagram larger

8263536.jpg

Here's how to wire:
-Before disconnecting wires from existing switches, mark each wire with tape and pen.
-There is one wire that feeds power to both switches > mark this the 'Hot wire' and it connects to Lutron black wire (if you are unsure about this wire, remove switches, separate wires, turn on power and test each wire to bare ground, tape tester leads to wood sticks so hands are away from power, Tester lights up on Hot wire)
-The switch that controls fan > mark this the 'Fan wire' and it will connect to Lutron Yellow wire
-the switch that controls light > mark this the 'light wire' and it will connect to Lutron Red wire
-Lutron Green wire or bare wire connects to bare ground wire.

Lutron Maestro dimmer rocker stopped working

Because the switches are relatively inexpensive, there aren't kits to repair them when they fail mechanically. Your best bet is to get an exact replacement from a Home Depot or such, turn off the breaker switch, and rewire it exactly as it was, using wire nuts and tape.
