1989 Pontiac Firebird, 5 spped, v6 2.8L

My car has been sitting a while and I have done the basics to get it started. New plugs, wires, thermostat, air filter etc.

However, I need to drain the old fuel and it seems like I can't do it from the filler opening with a syphon hose.

What is the easiest way to drain the fuel to add new.

Thanks

Taylor

Check if you have a drain plug in your fuel tank, if none, then there is no easy way but to bring down the whole tank and remove the old fuel. be careful in handling fuel.

I have a 89 pontiac firebird Trans Am "GTA" 5.7L tuned port injected. My engine gets hot somehow and my car has a quick start but lower power afterward. What could the problem be?

Fix the radiator cooling problems. You will damage the engine if you keep running the car in an overheated condition.

1. Replace the thermostat in the cooling system
2. Replace the water pump
3. Flush the cooling system thoroughly and re-fill with the correct coolant. Bleed any air out of the system otherwise you will have problems with air blockages and thus poor coolant flow.

You probably do not know how to do any of this so take it to a reputable workshop or cooling specialist to have it done.

I have a 1989 pontiac firebird v6 and i took the distributor cap annd rotor off and replaced them and now the car wont start it turns over. the car nnever had problems starting before this?

it sounds like that you have the spark plug wires on wrong, get a auto manual, and look up your engine, and the firing order, and go from there to re install the wires 1 at a time. the rotor sounds like it is ok.

My 91 firebird battery keep draining put new alt on test fine new battery fine drove it for a half hour and it died again whats wrong

You have a power drain ...and it sounds like a big one. Basically there will be a short somewhere in your cars wiring causing the power to drain from your battery, I would also check your car stereo wiring as sometimes they are the fault

1989 pontiac firebird 305 v8 starts and idles

Your idle air control valve may be dirty or the wire harness may be damaged. First try cleaning the throttle body with throttle body cleaner and make sure you use all the can up and try to get the idle air control valve cleaned. A faulty or dirty idle air control valve will cause engine to stall when put in to gear from idle. Good luck and hope this helps. Keep me posted, be glad to help you get your car running 100% soon.
