Universal Remote Control Codes

My elderly parents lost their remote control for their TV. They bought a Sony Universal Remote Control. I am the one trying to figure out how to program the thing. I am totally frustrated. There are thousands of codes to go through. I even did the one for the TV they have. Nothing is working. I still have tons more numbers to try. What can I do?

It is a Montgomery Ward TV.

    my tv is vistron 32" and i cant find a code either!!

Whish kind of TV have you? they never put all the codes in the universal remote manual. I have some here.

Bdp s350 sony bluray player.
I would just like to add that I have a Sony BDP-S500 player and a Sony TV.

The Sony TV's remote was preprogrammed to control the Bluray player, which i discovered by accident, so I didn't have to mess with universal remote control codes or anything.
