Hi, Assuming the unit behaves much like a VCR-VCR dubbing setup you may be able to pause the DVD recordig on the fly simply by making sure the function is set to DVD and pressing PAUSE to start/stop recording

I became more impatient trying to timed recording yesterday and when it failed to record after turning on I threw it in the trash. I'm going to bu a Sony.
You must manually hold in the on/off button on the machine itself (NOT
on the remote) for approximately 30 seconds. This will shut the unit
off. Then you can restart it.
OPEN CENTRAL PANEL,PUSH THE 'CLOCK 'BUTTON.IT BLINKS THE PRESETED YEAR.PRESS '-/+' BUTTONS TO SET THE YEAR.THEN PUSH 'NEXT' FOR '"MONTH ,DAY,HOUR,MIN".FOR EACH TIME PRESS NEXT BUTTON & +/- KEYS.
