Repair usb power male connector snapped off

The connector may be able to be resoldered to the board but needs to be done by a professional. Yes, you can replace the board but you will lose all of your favorites and maps going with a new board.

The USB power connector is a weak point with this unit. They can break easily. Remember that a new board will have the same design flaw.

The correct way to deal with this problem is to repair the connector and reinforce the mechanical connection to the board so it will not break in the future.

This unit comes with a charger (AC). There is alxo a car charger. Both have a USB connecter that plugs into the side of your unit.

Have you ever had it Registered?
If not you have to before any maps are loaded...... with the unit off connect the GPS to your computer using the USB connector cable...(its the same usb connection a camera uses connecting to a computer)..
Once your computer detects your GPS it will say new hardware found
go to www.MyGarmin.com and Register your unit
Garmin will also detect your model number and let you unlock the maps and firmware
FYI where you set up the GPS will be your SECURITY LOCATION if you ever lose your pin number you would have to travel back to the security location to unlock your unit

Using the USB connector supplied connect the gps to computer.... the computer will see the USB Drive

Now go to MyGarmin.com register there and update and get your maps there, it will detect your model for you

Your Nuvi should be Off before connecting....

My Nuvi came with a patch cord that connects from Nuvi to laptop
its a usb cord, same usb cord you find for cameras

Your computer should see that a usb cable is connecting
go to.... www.MyGarmin.com and update maps

Check power at the 12volt outlet to insure that you power is on at the connection. Try using a 12 volt convertor in the house to check the cord used in the vehicle.

My Garmin Nuvi 250 GPS power and USB connector is loose

I had the same problem on a trip. Required two fixes and once I did this the unit worked fine.
1. Replace the fuse in the car adapter (reason it wasn't charging when I used it in the car).
2. See the users manual on page 31 regarding resetting your C340.

I'm afraid that will have to go back to GARMIN for repair... they use fully custom LCD displays, as to all other GPS manufacturers.

Regarding the "guest" who's tagging along with a different problem...

Have you tried a hardware RESET? The button is hidden behind the front panel, which snaps off by a fingernail slot located directly under the GARMIN logo on the front panel.

* Use caution removing and reinstalling the front panel... it's somewhat fragile... wiggle it a little to get it off.

Press where it says "Press to Reset", hold for a second or two. Charge the unit with the car cord or USB cable, then try to turn it on again.

Once you can get the unit to (hopefully) turn ON, you should run all updates (there may be several!) using Garmin's Webupdater. (Connect to computer with USB cable first.)
