Did the machine get dropped, or otherwise roughly handled? Or have a rough, bumpy ride back home, etc? That could explain why it's not working correctly.

SOURCE: Needle will not pick up thread from bobbin

Was the old needle picking up the bobbin thread ok? If it was, then there's nothing wrong with the machine. Check that the needle is inserted correctly--there's a flat side on the shank of the needle and where that goes varies widely by machine. Then check that it's threaded properly.

(I once had my needle in backwards and threaded wrong--took the machine to the shop cause I was sure my baby was broken. Cost me $85.00 to find out that on that particular machine the flat side of the needle faces left!)

Let me know if this helps!

SOURCE: Pfaff 260 bobbin thread not picking up

Hi. This can be terribly frustrating, but the most likely cause for the bobbin thread not catching is that the needle is inserted wrong. There is a flat side on the shank of every needle and that has to be facing a specific way on your machine or the needle's grooves can't make the stitch. On most modern machines, it's my experience that the flat side goes to the rear, facing away from the operator, but some of my older machines need the flat side facing to the left or to the right.

Another thing that can cause the bobbin thread not to pick up is a bent needle, but in my experience it's usually the needle not in correctly.

(Cost me $85.00 to find this out!)

Let me know if this works, ok?

Happy Sewing!

Pfaff 1467 needle jammed in fabric and hand wheel stuck

Be sure to unplug the machine.
Loosen the screw that holds the needle in place (even though the needle is still stuck in place) and try moving the handwheel so the needlebar will raise to its highest position.
Try to remove the bobbin case from the machine. If the thread is tangled, you can try snipping (patiently and carefully) with small scissors and removing the loose threads with tweezers. Do NOT yank! Just keep working until the thread knot becomes loose enough to actually remove the bobbin case and the needle.

I have a pfaff 2040 and when the needle goes down to pick up the bobbin thread the main thread wraps around the bobbin housing and jams. Doesnt grab the bobbin thread. How can I fix this?

Be sure to use a brand new needle because a bent needle could miss the bobbin thread.

Search the internet for sites and videos relating to sewing machine timing or take it for service.

My needle arm is stuck in the down position, won't raise manually. Newbie

Not knowing the brand and model of your machine makes diagnosis difficult. In most machines that have the bobbin case inserted from the front, you can try releasing the bobbin case and removing it. When my machine jams, removing the bobbin case releases all those threads that are twisted and knotted inside that are "holding the needle captive."

Needle Jams In Bobbin Case Area pfaff 1540

First, make sure there is no debris and scraps of thread in the bobbin area. I'm sure you did that already. I assume you also tried it with another thread just to be sure. I would suspect that the timing went out of whack. The machines depend on a synchronization between the needle motion and the bobbin action underneath. I once had a Singer that slipped and I had to reset the timing. If it is the timing synch problem then it would happen consistently and not work sometimes and then not work other times. G

Help trouble-shoot jammed machine

Try these suggestions

1. Change the needle--use a needle that's for the fabric being sewed

2. Rethread the machine--top --make sure to use every thread guide

3. try a different bobbin--make sure bobbin is inserted correctly into the bobbin case, & make sure the bobbin is turned the correct way in the bobbin case

4. make sure the thread has not come off the thread take up lever

5. Clean under the needle plate & in the bobbin area for lint or threads

6. Also could be a timing problem, and the machine would need to be checked.

Pfaff select 1540 bobbin thread jam

if there is a thread in the hook area try taking a pair of needle nose
pliers to try & get the thread out, if that doesn't work then you might
think about taking the machine to a sewing machine shop to have the
machine checked since the needle will not go up & down & handwheel
won't move

Bobbin trouble

Remove the needle plate for better access and try using a seam ripper to gently cut the threads and continue to remove with the tweezers.

The needle plate is the metal plate under the presser foot and is held into place with at least two screws.

The bobbin fits into the bobbin case.

The bobbin case fits into the bobbin shuttle.

Once you get the jam cleaned away, raise the needle to it's highest position and remove the bobbin case and/or replace the bobbin case.

Jamming can cause the machine to be out of time.

If you thead the machine with the presser foot up, have the bobbin inserted into the bobbin case correctly and the stiching is loose and loopy the machine may need to go into the shop for service.

Tension Problem on Pfaff 2034, bobbin loops

Rule of thumb.. Loops on the bottom, problem on the top. Loops on the top, problems on the bottom.

Set your upper tension at 4, and rethread the machine from the top. Just before you thread the needle, but the presser foot down. If the thread pulls right thru easily, then the thread is not thru the tension wheel right. Because, if you can't pull the thread thru with the presser foot down, you have it threaded right.

Pfaff 1222 Bobbin holder stuck with thread

With power off, take the needle out and the presser foot. Remove the two flathead screws that secure the needle plate from the machine and remove the plate. You'll have a top view of the bobbin housing and see the thread that's stuck to it.
