Same old issue, F1 error code. I emailed Whirlpool, they wanted more info from me. I responded and they never responded to the email reply. Called them on telephone and started to get run around. I purchased extended warranty and the minute I spoke about a petition and Class Action about the poor workmanship and representation, I have a service call this week. I asked the lady if this remedy will fix the issue or will I be calling her back in a few weeks with the same issue? She could not answer my question. I will post my results after the service call. Thanks Jim
I just called Whirlpool...800-253-1301 in USA and a lovely lady informed that there is a recall on the Cabrio Whirlpool washer for the F1 code. We set an appointment and the service call and parts will be free to fix the issue.
Gee, SM, all I can say is if you did not see my solution at the bottom of this page, call the number I did: 800-253-1301. The lady I spoke to (did not write her name down...sorry) told me of the recall, and set up an appt. right away at no charge (washer is 2 years old). The service company called the next day and I have an appt. (was rescheduled my me) for Monday, 2.2.09. I suggest you keep calling back until you get someone who knows about this recall or ask to speak to a manager and mention this forum and the answers you got. Good luck...keep us all informed.
I have a Cabrio washer and is also giving me an F1 error. I called Whirlpool and because I purchased it at Sears, they cannot help me fix it for free. I called Sears and they are charging me for the parts and service guy which cost almost half the price of my washer. It is so frustrating...
it should be freeee....
I just had this same problem repaired .The repair guy was trying to charge me until i did a quick search and found out about the recall .Saved $275 today. One would think that buy calling sears for service they should know about recall without consumer informing them.Needless to say he was not as happy as I AM.
I just got off the phone and they WONT help me, said there is NO recall and I don't "fall under" any type of rework or recall based on my model and serial number, I am beyond frustrated!

PROBLEM SOLVED!
I started noticing the F1 error on my Whirlpool Cabrio washer upon
starting a load... Obviously, the same problem that so many hundreds of
others have already noted here. After reading through several of the
posts here, I did the following and Whirlpool picked up the tab for
parts & labor, no questions asked.
That's all I had to say. The agent put me on hold for 30 seconds and
arranged for a local appliance repair company to come to my house and
fix the problem. I called the appliance repair company immediately
after talking to Whirlpool, to confirm that they got the authorization
for Whirlpool to pay parts & labor, and also to give them the part
number that I knew they'd need ahead of time to save them a trip - they
still made two trips.
If for whatever reason the Whirlpool agent is giving you trouble, keep
your cool and inform them that you are 99% certain that this is a
manufacturing defect and that if they fail to stand by their product,
you will be taking your case to the Better Business Bureau.
I hate to see all of the stories on here about people having had to
fork out hundreds of dollars to address this issue. I'm glad that I
didn't start getting this error until now, after it's become a very
well known problem... but I do feel for those of you who ended up
having to pay more of your own money to fix a problem that shouldn't
even exist in the first place.
Good luck!
Awesome post! Save me $200 for the repair! Thank you
Thanks for info. I was fixing to call a tech but something told me to get on the computer and look up some info. about the F1 code. The rest is history...I read this post , called Whirlpool immediately and my washer is getting fixed FREE and they are coming out tomorrow!!!! Thanks again for the detailed info.
Thanks to all who posted on this site! I just called, July 8, 2013, for my WTW6400 washer that we bought back in 2008 and they are covering parts/labor 100%! I was afraid since all these posts were from 2008 thru 2010 that it would be way too late but she put me on hold for a few minutes, came back and told me it was covered! Thanks everyone!
Mine is from 2007. they said mine was built after the cut off date for the recall so they won't cover it. they said my washer was built in Feb. or March 2007 after the problem was identified and fixed. Any thoughts? I spoke to a Kelly and ask for the supervisor who was another Kelly and she told me the same thing. thanks

F1 means the central electrical control unit, i.e. the onboard computer, has fatally failed. Unless you have both the skill and tools to test the guts of this computer, you're stuck replacing it. Good news, three screws at the rear to expose the control panel, then unplug one unit; plug in the new one. Just to be on the safe side, color code all the plugs and receptacles. At wholesale, the part is $175.00. CODE 083009 part W10189966 CNTRL-ELEC
Almost everyone is using this forum to simply complain and repeat the same thing that everyone else is saying without offering much actual help,
HERES THE DEAL !
Call Whirlpool Customer Service at 800-253-1301
tell them you havbe a repeating F-1 Failure
and that you are aware of a "rework" issue regarding the control board, and that you want a service call to be set-up,
when the service man arrives (if he is worth his salt) will know that the problem is the control board, it is a VERY common problem with this machine, along with the F-51 code which is a bad RPS
(Rotation Position Sensor) also called a speed sensor.
In either case the main board should be replaced.
Just to let everyone know - I called 1-800-253-1301 and explained that this is regarding the infamous Cabrio - F1 problem that hundreds of people have complained about all over the internet and apparently is a common problem. The lady (KIM) acknowledged that Whirlpool is having this issue and she immediately scheduled a Service Tech appointment for tomorrow. She confirmed that the service call and any part will be picked up by Whirlpool. I will post another comment after the service call.
Hello,
Here is a video that will aid you in you repair.
">
I don't have a solution but I am getting the F 50 code on my washer too. I called last week to the 1-800-253-1301 number and the representative set up a service date for me. At the time of the call I didn't have my serial and model # information. I went on line again today and read the post about the recall so I called back to the 1-800 # and this time I supplied them with my serial and model # information asked the rep about the recall and she said that there wasn't a recall but a special project has been set up due to this problem with error codes on top load washers and parts and labor will be covered under this project for my washer. The rep gave me a service code to give to the repair man when he comes out on friday and said to also have the repair man to give them a call while he is here at the house. I will not be out of pocket on this problem. Thanks to all that posted the information about Whirlpool covering the parts and labor. My washer is only a little over 2 yrs old and I was really bummed about what it was going to cost to fix it. Just in case anyone would like to know I have model #WTW6400SWD, Cabrio 580 top load washer.
I have the F50 code on my washer as well, and I have called Whirlpool twice, spoke to a different person each time and totally got the runaround with this. They said, no, they do not have any recalls associated with this and it is not covered because my machine is past warranty (it is 1 1/2 years old). I was going to schedule service call but found that it would cost $130...come on! I've had the washer for such a short time, and it already has a problem that will cost at least $130 to fix? Didn't I spend a huge chunk of cash to have a product that would work longer than 1 1/2 years? I probably would have been better off buying some yardsale washer for $100! I was so irritated with both of the ladies I spoke with, they said this problem is not common, I said I had read hundreds of posts online about the F## error codes and they BOTH said (as though it were rehearsed?) that they couldn't control what people posted online...well okay, but did these hundreds of people get together and decide to post this just for fun? Or did they actually have the problem with their washer, look it up online and post in the hope that they would find some information to help? What b.s. I will never again buy a Whirlpool product, ever, or from any of their sister companies or subsidiaries. I talked at length with both ladies and was sure I was being lied to, I just got the feeling that they knew something they weren't telling me. However, the first time I called, before being transferred, I spoke with a man who very candidly said that they had had a lot of issues with the Cabrio. I can only assume that he was telling me the truth, why would a Whirlpool employee lie about something that may hurt their business? I am soooo frustrated with this company! And I miss having a washine machine, the laundromat is expensive! :(

I also have a cabrio top loader and after two years, it began throwing the F1 code, every time i start the washing machine, regardless of the the cycle. i have to restart the machine at least 5 times.
i called whirl pool and was told the problem was only with the top loaders and could not do anything for me. so i mentioned the class action suit and the petition...i was then put on hold. i was told after about 10 minutes on hold, that since my washer is over 2 years old, they will still do nothing even if there is a recall.... my very expensive washer is too old, and apparently believes their washers are only good for 2 years. i would like more information on what i need to be involved with the petition and class action suit.
thank you for any help.

Call Whirlpool's 800 number, ask to speak to a representative or say "Recall" and they will set up a free service appointment for this. Very easy and polite agent. I had it fixed in 3 days.
I was told by Whirlpool today (12/15/09) that any units bought in 2006, 07, or 08 with the recurring F1 code would be fixed free of charge. My local Whirlpool dealer said the parts were taking 8-10 days to come in, but everyone who asked was getting the problem taken care of. He said newer models do not seem to have this issue so it looked like the factory had solved the problem.
I called 800-252-1301, gave them the mod# and Ser# and told them of my F1 code problem. They offered to schedule service at no cost to me. They also said they would replace the speed sensor at the same time (F51 code problem) at no cost. These are the two most common problems with this machine and the new parts fix the problem for good from what I've read. My machine was purchased 6/07 and began failing in April/09. The service guy is due Tues Jun 30. We will see what happens.
P.S. the person I spoke with on the phone was very helpful. Maybe they are getting on board with this problem.
Well, I have been having the F1 error code forever. I purchased my machine in Sept. of 2006. I called 1-800-253-1301 and got probably the nicest guy for customer service ever. You have to tell them that you read on line that this is a huge problem and Whirlpool is taking care of it. He looked it up and said, "yes, there is a problem with the F1 error and all parts and labor wil be taken care of. I got a service date in just a few days. He said there wasn't a recall because a recall would involve sending out letters to everyone who purchased the washer. He said anyone who calls will get this problem fixed. I don't think that is very nice that they didn't let everyone know. But if you call, they will fix it free. Good Luck everyone....and I feel for everyone who has to start this machine over and over and babysit it until they know it's going to wash this time...this machine could have drove me nuts...lol...CALL Please and insist that they help you...
Wow, this was an easy fix for me. My Whirlpool Cabrio started doing the F1 message a few weeks ago. I just got off the phone (800) 253-1301 with their customer svc., spoke with Cheryl, she was fabulous. I told her my problem, I mentioned a ton of online complaints, and I mentioned the recall. She is confirmed the recall, said all parts and labor to fix this problem will be covered. She said the repair tech should be at my house in 3 days...I will post back and confirm. The phone call took about 17 minutes :)
Called Whirlpool today at 800-253-1301 due to the Cabrio F1 code problem and gave my Ser. and Mod numbers and the customer service rep stated there is a known issue and they will pay for parts and labor to repair. She schedule an appointment on the spot with A&E Factory Repair for three business days out. Can't asked for better service. My washer was purchased in the Spring of 2007.
Whirlpoos cabrio f1 code model number WTW 6600 SW 2 purchased washing machine march 2007, f1 code started 6 months later.... has gotten worse, 3 times per cycle.... called 1800-253-1301 spoke to chelsea very nice... she scheduled an appointment to have the problem fixed they will be here on monday.... I will let you know how it went. this will be fixed by A & E Factory Service 1800 771 3029

I just had the tech come out and repair the washing machine whirlpool paid for the service call and the part. Everything seems fine now. Tech siad that this was a common problem with washer, they have upgraded the replacement part
Thank you people who have posted on FIXYA!!!! I've been dealing with this problem for months, with no help from Whirlpool. After reading your posts, I thought I would try calling the 1-800-253-1301 you posted and sure enough - they will now cover it!!! It looks like they must have a recall in place! My washer is two years old and they are replacing the part with no charge. THANKS AGAIN FIXYA!!!
Excellant.. Called Whirlpool, they tried to help with F1 problem but then wanted to schedule repair. I asked if there was a recall on this unit and was put on hold and the received an appointment with labor and material free of charge. My Cabrio has been a work horse for a family of 7 hope it back in action soon.
I just had my first F1 code happen on my black Whirlpool Cabrio washer. Purchased in April 2007, first time I've had an error code. Called Whirlpool at the number everyone has posted 800-253-1301 and spoke to a very helpful woman named Connie. She told me that Whirlpool is basically recalling the part (although they call it a "special project code") and that the guy would be out on Monday to fix it with no charge for labor or parts. Hooray! Thanks for the info this topic--helped me call them armed with all the appropriate information. Good luck to others with this issue....
follow this thread as there are a lot more people that have posted under this. It sounds like there is a recall on this now.
I've replied to this forum more than a few times. Whirl pool attempts to be nice but, the day before the service they call informing you that if it is anything other or more than the F1 code you are going to be responsible for the whole diagnostic fee of 140.00. So, all day I played with my little washing machine in hope to get my daughter basketball uniforms washed in one complete cycle. It worked so, if your interested please try the following:
Place your washer in rinse and spin cycle once you see any code shut it down.
Once the washer is empty of clothes and water (I know I had to drap mine over an outside banaster to drip dry).
Ok, no water left? Unplug it for a half an hour.
With just a few pieces of laundry put it on the sheet cycle w/warm water and low spin. It should work and I know it's a pain in the a** but, just until you can resolve the issue with costomer service you can get a few small loads done. [email protected]
I just got off the phone with Jamie at Whirlpool 1-800-253-1301.
I gave her the model number WTW6600SW2 & Serial # CU4071291. And she kept saying sorry her screen was slow, then finally put me on hold came back & said what I had already told her that there HAS Been a recurring problem with F1 & she said yes I was able to pull it up but, unfortunately they No longer cover it as of January 2014! I am sooooo ticked! She didn't care that I told her there was/is a recall! Wanted to schedule me service but repeated I would have to pay for repair! I am on disability & can't afford to pay for a recall!!!! Then of course asked if there was anything else she could help me with? Are you kidding me? I told her : "So I am just stuck with a machine that doesn't work? NO! I just wont be buying WhirlPool products again!!!!
I am so upset. Does anyone know if there is still away I can get this covered? A repair man is suppose to be here in next 45 minutes. And I really can't afford the especially at Christmas!
Thanks in advance for any help!
Pamela
P.S. Don't purchase these washer & dryers as they don't stand behind them!!!!!!!!
Called on 10/04/11 and followed the advice of others. Said RECALL at the automated message. Had my model & serial # handy. Told the rep Sara I had a recurring F1 code for which I was aware there was a recall on the control board. She checked and immediately gave me many options of days with am or pm windows to choose from. Call took about 2 minutes. She confirmed that all parts and labor will be covered by the service call.
So the 1st service call (which I took a day off of work for) was a bust because the repair tech was under the impression that Whirlpool had sent the required part to be replaced. Whirlpool expected the tech to make two service calls, one to diagnose the problem and a second to install ordered parts. That was frustrating. So I now have to take 2 more days off of work I think, until Whirlpool tells me they have a Saturday available. Wish I was told that the 1st time. Appt is scheduled, and lucky for me, a Sr. Tech arrived today as scheduled with the required part on his truck. 15 minutes later, repair completed with the $400.66 repair covered by Whirlpool. In the end, worth the inconvenience to save that kind of money. My washer was purchased in Jan 2007 so don't let them tell you the washer is out of warranty if you have an older model..mine was covered after almost 5 years.

I purchased my Whirlpool Cabrio in Oct 2006. I love it. I did not begin getting the F1 error until Sep 2011. It has gradually gotten worse. After a quick google search, I called 800 253 1301. I explained my problem, mentioned the recall and less than a minute later was scheduled for a service call tomorrow. I confirmed verbally that there will be no charge for the service call, parts or labor. So far, so good!
I have the same problem error F1 code after 15-18 min. Have to restart several time until finished the cycle. Called Whirlpool customer service 1-800-253-1301, got answer from live person after ans. the tape questions, about 20-25 min.
Whirlpool's customer care aware of the problem and schedul technician to fixs the problem with free of charge. 11-12-2010. Pairoj Rangsikul
Had the same F1 error everyone else has called Whirlpool they were very helpful sent 2 different companies to fix problem. One company wanted an extra $600 and the other wanted an extra $360 because of other parts. Of course niether co. stated the same extra part called whirlpool back and had them send me the control board and I changed it my self. Washing clothes now. If you want to go this route it is a simple fix. 3 screws on the back of the control center lift it off the control board is incased in a grey plastic case. Simply unplug the color coded wires unscrew one screw pull control board out replace with new control board reverse removal process and go. Very simple.
Answering to the F1 and recall issue....
After finding this thread and discovering how widespread the problem was, and how to get it resolved, I called Whirlpool at the number provided.
The first person I spoke with started in on the old "reboot" concept (try to unplug it, wait for 30 seconds.....etc), and I politely interrupted.
I said look, I fix my own stuff, I do my own research. I'm holding in my hand a printout from an online repair forum with numerous complaints detailing this exact F1 code problem and that Whirlpool has agreed to fix it for others, and I expect Whirlpool to fix mine, too.
The online rep immediately switched gears and quickly admitted that yes, they've been getting a lot of calls on this problem, and that they would schedule someone to come out and fix it free of charge.
Nice.
But....
Whirlpool sets up the appointment only as an investigative job, without telling the assigned repair company (at least in my incident) exactly what was up.
When they arrived, I gave them the lowdown and said that they would very likely have to replace the control board.
The fiddled with the machine for a while (also finding and removing a stuck bra wire), and then came to a dead end, and called their home base. After some discussion, they told me that they needed to install a new control board, but that they didn't have one with them and would need to set up a new appointment.
Didn't we go over this when you arrived?
And then they charged me a "drive out" fee of $80. I guess I will settle for that, as we live in the boonies, and it saved me the hassle of disconnecting the machine and bringing it to them. Maybe I am too forgiving. In any case, when I first pointed out that the bra wire removal they did was not warranty work, they waved it off.
The upshot: Call Whirlpool. Don't let them give you any runaround, but be polite. Tell them you have loads of documentation on the problem's widespread nature. Find out which shop they're assigning the job to (the shop will probably also call you to confirm the appointment). Tell the shop in advance the whole story and make sure they bring a control board.
The tech called someone in Texas who explained that there is a sensor that detects too much suds if you don't use the HE detergent. He also said that not everything labeled HE is true - only Gain, Tide, and Cheer are are truly HE detergents. Also, when using them on a full load, don't use more than a 1/2 cap, on a quick wash use 1/4 cap.
He replaced the faulty board in the top of the machine.
We had the same f1 problem whirlpool came out fixed it at no cost to us and we started our first load of clothes and guess what OH MY the F1 code again???humm Now what do I do?
I just recently started having this problem with F1. Washer has worked fairly well except for minor lid latch problems. I have found that for a simple fix to F1 error is to put a speaker magnet or similar strong magnet on vertical panel at the latch. I believe this makes the control panel think that the latch check step has been satisfied and machine will step to next process of the program, effectively working correctly.
All's I can says is poor people got poor ways. Try it.
Regarding the Whirlpool Cabrio F1 error code problem...
I read the comments posted in Jan 2009 and Oct 2008, and called Whirlpool at 1 800 253 1301...I asked about a "recall", the representative to take my call, 'Ashley', stated there was NOT a "recall", and yet despite my appliance was out of warranty (purchased March 2007), she would send an authorized technician out for "complimentary service to repair this issue". I set up the appt with Ashley from Whirlpool who then provided me with the A & E Factory Service (customer service toll free is located in Texas), I called them directly with questions...they confirmed receiving Whirlpool's authorization and that despite it was out of warranty, that Whirlpool WAS, in fact, picking up the bill and guaranteeing that they would repair the issue completely by a technician from my area...and if I don't have confidence in the first technician they send, to call them back and they would send another. My appointment is in 5 days...so far I'm VERY SATISFIED with Whirlpool's proactive customer service.
----(Now, don't get me started with the crud Best Buy put me through on this issue---saying I should have purchased their extended warranty...or the local appliance repair company I called in July to fix this problem and paid $35.00 for nothing---he didn't know what was the problem and wanted to replace the whole computer panel for $200+, fiddling around with all the connections and making it worse!)

Call whirlpool and tell them you have the f code problem they will send someone to fix it the pay for the parts and service under warranty or not.
I have the same F1 code i called and A & E is coming out on Monday to fix it, will let you know what happens I will show them and remind them of all of this talk about it.
I just got off the phone and Jessica the supervisor swore there was no F1 problem recall. So after I threatened the BBB, she agreed to pay for the part and I would pay for the labor. I plan on getting the part and fixing it, then complaining again to get reimbursed for the labor. They say these sites are full of agry people, I said amazingly they are all angry over the same problems. I plan on calling and stating the unprofessionalism of the company. If there wasn't a problem theyh wouldnt supply the part. Good luck everyone, be ready for company ordered denial.
What are we gonna do about this? How can whirlpool be so negligent and not have to protect their customers?
I live in Wapakoneta OH. and I just got off the phone with Whirlpool at the 800 # I talked to Brandy at cust. service and she was very helpfull. She did say they don't have an offical recall on the Cabrio washer but are aware of the problem and are thying to help customers. She set up an appt, with A&E Factury Services. I mentioned about the posts on here where the repairman would not change the part if he didnt see the F-1 code. I was told as long as she puts the Auth, code on the repair order they will change it. On the down side she said they try not to go much past 2 yrs. put will some. My appt is for monday so will have to see what happins. Bob
Today was the day they set up to fix my washer, A & E showed up as promised, but all he did was look at the model and serial # and he was off. Said they had to order the part. What a bunch of crock. Will be 7 days or more before the part gets here then I have to call them back and set up another visit so they can fix it. When I called orig. they said they would be here to fix it. If and when the part gets here I'll post again to let you know what happins.
It was great to see all of the posts about the F! code. We started having the same problem on our Cabrio Washer...I called the customer service number for whirpool (posted on earlier comments) and they were great! When I told them my model number and serial number, they confirmed that it is a quality issue and they are covering parts and labor. We've got a service call setup for next week. I appreciate all of the helpful posts!

Hello & Welcome to FixYa
F1 error in your whirlpool cabrio indicates bad
control board and should be replaced to resolve the error code. However, you can
contact Whirlpool as well prior to replacing the control yourself as I have
seen whirlpool paying for the parts themselves just because this is known to be
a common issue. Please get back to me if you have any other questions.

F1 - I'm having teh same problem. I'm thinking this whirlpool model is a lemon.
Yes, same problem what do I do...
Could you give more details on the class action suit? i would like to sign up
I just started getting the F1 error code yesterday. It's taking me 2 times to hit cancel and restart for it to start again. It seems to happen when the water is trying to fill at the beginning of the wash cycle or rinse. Started looking for a fix and I find that there are a lot of people with the same issue. Looks like it's the October special from Whirlpool. Let us know how the service call goes. Thanks.
Holy moly, how can we all be having the same problem -- you are right, it's the October Surprise. We only bought this machine about a year and a half ago, this is RIDICULOUS, why should we spend this much money only to get all this frustration 1.5 years in? I called our warranty company last week about it and they sent a repairman to open up the top panel and reset it by unplugging and replugging a bunch of cords. Then he started a wash load with the machine empty to see if it happened again... it didn't and he waited about 30 min. He told me if I get "F1" again to call the wrnty company again and they'll come replace the control board, "its susceptible to moisture and costs $450 to replace," he said. Ummm if you're going to make a part that delicate and expensive why not PROTECT it when you make the washer? Thank God we bought an extended warranty, but the repairman told me to double check b/c it may not cover the replacement!!! Keep me posted on your plans for a class action suit! We may get right on there with you.
I have whirlpool cabrio WTW6200SWO and the same F1 problem at 19 minutes. When I called service she told me everybody is confused, they
don't have cabrio they have a calypso model so mine won't be covered and
I will have to pay for it. I argued about this but she wouldn't budge.Â
Has anyone else had this happen? It's kind of funny that its the exact same
problem.
Â
Same problem here. Got an F1 error code. Have a warranty with American Home Shield. The contractor is having problems fixing it. I've made 3 calls to AHS to try and get it fixed. Soon i'll have them call it a loss and replace it with a different washer.
everytime I start the top loading cabrio, i get an f1 error message. It takes 2 or 3 times to restart to solve this. It is annoying because I never know how long it will take to F1 but usually happens when I walk away. It didn't do this until recently. My machine is about 2 yrs. old.
My Cabrio top load washer is also 2 yrs old, and I began getting the dreaded F1 code last week. I also just cancel and start again as many times as is necessary. Usually it happens at the very beginning when the washer is filling for 1st time, but sometimes it's given the code later with about 19 minutes left-very frustrating!!!!! I would also be interested in the petition for a class action suit.
I have the exact same problem with our washer that is about 2 years old. The F1 error code. It just started. I also would be willing to start a class action law suit.
I had no idea so many people were having this same problem. My Whirlpool Cabrio is about 2 yrs old as well. It just started the F1 error last week. I haven't called service yet, so I'm anxious to find out what they say. It doesn't sound promising based on the responses I'm reading. I may be interested in a class action suit as well.
2 yrs old and I have the same problem, will they not do anything? I have not callled yet this is at my lake house and very frustatring
I have a Whirlpoool WTW6300 which has the old type agitator. It gives the same F1 code when rinsing. I have to hit PAUSE/CANCEL and START several times before it continues running. Is there some way of overriding that feature to avoid having to stand-by when running a wash?
It sounds as if many owners of the WTW 6000 Series washers are having the same problem. Please let me know if you come up with a solution.
Thank you, Richard Asami (Posted 03 DEC 2008)
I have the exact same problem. Mine is about 2 years old as well.
I have the same exact problem. My Whirlpool Carbio is 2 years old and it just started showing the F1 code. It is very frustrating, I have to stand there and press pause then start 3 to 4 times before it will finally catch. With a 3 year old and a 2 year old I do not have the luxury of standing around and tending to a washing machine throwing a temper tantrum!
Washer is a little over a year old and have the F1 error two to three times at the start of the cycle then happens again half way through the wash.
I have the same F1 problem with the Whirlpool Cabrio (WTW6200) - it is very frustrating having to start the machine over several times just to see if it will take this time or not...
I HAD THE SAME F CODE. I CALLED WHIRLPOOL AND THEY SENT A REPAREMAN OUT. WHEN WE TIPPED IT BACK THERE WAS A LOT OF CLOSE UNDER THE MACHINE THAN HE LIFT THE TOP TO FIND MORE CLOSE BETWEEN THE DRUM AND TANK. AFTER REMOVING ALL HE RAN A TEST AND THIS FIXED THE PROBLEM AT NO CHARGE!!!!
My Whirlpool Carbio is 2 years old and it just started showing the F1 code. It is very frustrating, I have to stand there and press pause then start 3 to 4 times before it will finally catch. Just got of the phone and they said that I would have to pay. I guess will just get a differant brand.
I have the same problem. Just got off the phone with some idiot from Whirlpool customer service. He told me he was not aware of a problem with Cabrio and that all the same concerns that are being posted on this website could be a very small percentage compared to the number of machines sold. All he was interested in doing was to send me out a service man to diagnose the problem for $81.00 just for the service call. I told him why does he have to diagnose it he should know what it is as it is a common fault. Sounds like we all have purchased a lemon from a company who does not care!!!!!!
Well, I looked here for a solution to the "F1" code issue and it seems I am joining a club of unhappy users! Being pretty handy, I thought from the sound of washer filling with water now vs. a few weeks ago sounded differently. So, in my infinite wisdom (!), I thought the hoses were clogged...no. I've replaced water valves in the past on other models, so I am thinking this might be the same issue. I'll search further.
In the meantime, did anyone here have the issue fixed, and what was the cause???
My story is about as good as the others. After a call to Whirlpool, they did agree to send out A and E Repair. The repairman said unless he saw the F1 he would NOT replace the part (although he had it sitting on my dryer). He got ready to leave and saw the F1, he still refused! He said he had to come back and fix another part which of course, was not on his truck. Other information of interest, he said he cannot replace the part unless he sees it, he has to call Whirlpool to get the okay! Today, another repairman is here and he wont fix the F1 either - he is here to fix the pump. Dont buy Whirlpool and dont use the jokers from A and E... I had a similiar issue try ing to get my Whirlpool dishwasher fixed too!!!!!!!!!
I hope I do not have the same issue as you, macawz22. I must be in a different location than you since the name of the repair service is different. But, thanks for the heads-up: if this happens I will be on the phone to Whirlpool before the service person leaves. We'll see and I will post the results after Wednesday, 1/28/09, the day of the service.
Rondirect - you were right on in your diagnosis. The repairman from last week said the error comes because the sensor/brain (located on the right side behind the wash, rinse, etc) does not sense there is water in the tub. The tube comes from the same right side from the brain down under to the tub... (if I understood him correctly) He turned the washer up to verify there wasnt a kink in the tube. My F1 happens like some others within the first 10-20 seconds after starting the load. Note for your service call on 1/28 - the repairman MUST see the F1 AND he will call in to Whirlpool and they will ask him to perform a bunch of tests. The man today says - they never work - so dont let him leave without fixing it. Good luck and hope your outcome is better than mine was today....
Thanks, Macaw (may I call you just Macaw!?). You would think that if you call the 1-800 number and tell them of the F1 issue and they say there is a recall, they would automatically replace any item that is affected by the recall, no questions asked. That's what a recall means, no? And to think that I (and I am sure all of us on this forum) did not receive a letter from W about this. Perhaps their policy is "don't ask, don't tell!" I quess in today's economy everyone is cutting corners! I'll keep you informed...
Only had our washer 2 weeks. Already getting the F1 error. I sure wish I would have checked this washer out more online because apparently there are no happy users! What a waste of money. My husband's on the phone with whirlpool as I'm typing this. Hope he gets something accomplished. With 3 kids and 2 adults we needed something to wash a lot of clothes but we're the ones that got washed!!!! My advice to anyone shopping for a new washer.....DON'T BUY A CABRIO!!!!!! Go with an LG which was my first choice. I knew I should have listened to my instincts.
well i just got off the phone with whirlpool with the same f1 problem he new nothing of a recall and said the part would run me 400.oo yikes!!!!!! please advise as whom to talk to on the recall
My "Craprio" keeps stopping and showing F1. Store where we bought it says alot of people are having this problem, but there is no recall from Whirlpool. What a rip-off!
I have the same dam issue and this isn't the 1st issue with this washer. The 1st issue was it would not spin that was six months after purchasing it, they replaced it stating it was a defect, 2nd was when the new one spun it sounds like an airplane, not under warrantee anymore and they wouldn't help. Now I have the same F issue like everyone else. Therefore, if anyone knows of a class action suite? I'm in....
I hate this washer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I just called 1-800-253-1301 and explained that I'm having the same issue that everyone on the net is complaining about. Of course the 1st thing she asked is if I had the extended warrenty. I just said I didn't know but, that I am aware that there is a defect on this washer and this is the third issue I've had with it. The 1st one was it would never finish a load or spin which was six months of owning it, then the washer's spinning cycle sounded like an unbalanced airplane, now this. I have an appointment this Tuesday free of charge. If anyone has this problem, call the number and ask for Patricia you also have to state that you are aware of the defect. Hope this helps, Carol
i have to start the washer 3 times when first started. It starts flashing F1.
MISTY SADLER
I HAVE BEEN UNSATISFIED WITH THIS VERY EXPENSIVE MACHINE SINCE DAY ONE. IT HAS ALWAYS MADE VERY LOUD SPINNING NOISES , IT STOPS AND TURNS OFF WHEN IT IS TIME FOR RINSE CYCLE, AND KNOW FOR THE LAST MONTH IT FLASHES F1 WHEN I TRY TO START A LOAD, AND I HAVE TO POWER OFF AND ON ANYWAY FROM 4-7 TIMES BEFORE IT WILL ACTUALLY START AND THEN IT STOPS IN RINSE CYCLE. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, CUSTOMERS PURCHASE THESE "NICE,HIGH QUALITY MACHINES" SO THEY WONT HAVE THESE ISSUES... WHIRLPOOL NEEDS TO GET OFF THE POT AND STAND BEHIND THERE PRODUCT AND FIX THE ISSUE BEFORE THEY RUIN THIER REPUTATION OVER ONE UNIT!!!!!!!!!!!!
If all you people like me having this f1 problem and the company is denying you saying there is no defect with the problem your having; has anyone contacted the better business people complaining to them your being ripped off ?? I like to know
Whirlpool Cabrio WTW6600SBT Top Load washer is beeping and has a strange error code on screen. It will not drain water or spin. What should I do?
I have the F-1 error code also , I tested the unit and the problem is the main computer brain , I started to purchase one an found how expensive they are so I started to look into it and found it is a common defect that whirlpool likes to keep quiet . My unit is two years old and this as gone on for awhile .Last week the F-51 code came up .Bad motor rotor sensor ,100.00 for the part and I had to take the whole rusty piece of junk apart to fix . This is OK now but still get F-1 code so I complain to whirlpool customer service 1-800-253-1301 about it and they say that they will send a service tech out Saturday {today} to repair the above refered to piece of s--- . Naturally he takes it apart and it seems OK but this unit sucks full size mens shirts under the tub and cloggs up the drain .Imagine I paid 1000.00 to get my shirts sucked into the drain. So he leaves and says he will order the computer brain and send it to me and I`ll put it in . I have no problem repairing it as I am a technician for A/C work anyway , The point is my customers expect me to carry parts for their appliances , maybe whirlpool should too. I feel after this fleecing I got from Whirlpool I would never recommend a CABRIO washer or dryer to anyone . This is a LEMON!!!!!!!!! Save your money buy another brand . The people they have at the customer service # are all nice and friendly but thats very little help when your wife can`t wash clothes over the weekend and will end up in a laundry mat . I think I will be better served to go buy another brand for about 400.00 and use this piece of junk for target practice , won`t get my money back but the ammo used to put the CABRIO out of my misery might will be well spent. PLEASE DONT BUY THIS , SAVE YOURSELF!!!!!!!!!
Called the 800-253-1301 number and was told my model (wtw6600swo) was not under the recall and that because we were just out of warrenty they would supply parts but not labor.
Anyone w/ a similar "sorry, not your model" situation?
What's the difference between my model and the wtw6600sbt?
Our Cabrio unit is 18 mos old & it started having the same problem... F1 error code. Well $470.00 later it was fixed by an Appliance Repair service tech that Whirlpool recommended/hooked my wife up with. It's funny that they did not mention the recall or that Whirlpool would pick up the tab... sure wish I would have read FixYa before calling Whirlpool.
If they want people to continue to buy Whirlpool... they really need to admit that they have a lame component in these washers and fix the problem for all people who have bought one & all who intend to buy one.
People make mistakes but ignoring the mistake when you're in business making products... makes people want to buy Japanese! Right GM, Ford & Chrysler? BQ La Verne, CA
OK folks I need to get a consensus.
First of all the SW and SB suffix denotes "white" and "black" exterior color.
Secondly, Whirlpools product literature page at http://shared.whirlpoolcorp.com/product_... lists product literature for models with a 0, 1, 2 and 3 as the very last digit. I'm thinking this is a version number.
Now, the lady at Whirlpool help told me earlier this week that my model ("0" last digit) was not under the recall.
So, I ask you, of those who've gotten free service what is the last digit of your model number?
Thanks,
"Jack Bauer"
I called Whirlpool again today for the third time and each time they state thay don't have a recall on my year and a half old Cabrio model# WTW6200SW
When I call and put the model # their system adds a number "0" to the end but I told Whirlpool my washer doesn't have a "O" at the end. Regardless they say no recall on my model or TSB (tech service bulletins) They only explain to try the unplug power for 30 min. routine which hasn't worked.
Has anyone ever noticed a strong spark when plugging the washer into the outlet receptacle? Mine has done it from the first time installed to now. I think something is faulty/defective and I have signed a recall petition at www.petitiononline.com/cabrio08/petition.html I hope something can be done to resolve this problem with Whirlpool. Any advice how to deal with Whirlpool to get a replacement control board????
Thanks,
Kenny
I am receiving an "F1" error message on my washer too! I just got off the phone with Whirlpool and they are send a tech out on Thursday to fix my machine. The lady said they would be covering all of the charges. I verified before I hung up that there wasn't anything I would need when the tech comes (repair order # or something) and that ALL charges for the repairs to clear my machine of the "F1" message and to turn my machine back ot its proper working order would be cover and I was told I didn't need anything except to be there when the call to say they are coming and that they would be covering the repairs. I did state as soon as I got her on the phone that I had looked on line to see what the "F1" meant and that I had seen several post from other owners having the same problem and that they said there was a recall on these machines and she asked me to hold while she checked. She came back to the line and said she would schedule the repair and that they would be covering the parts & repairs. So for all of you out there still getting the run around keep trying. I only called once but had not trouble what so ever getting mine scheduled for repair.
What was your model number?
THANK YOU - had the F1 error - called the 800 number listed in the posts, they will send a service company out tomorrow free of charge!
I am also having the "F1" error code on my Cabrio washer I am on hold right now with whirlpool and when I told the guy about what I was reading on the internet and about the recall he said hold on one second and sure enough he said there is a recall. Transfered me to a very nice lady who said that it will be free of charge for parts and labor and is now setting me up an appointment! You must call the 800-253-1301, because the number on the Guide you get with your washer is not helpful at all and they had me call and make my own appointment since "their system was down" (yeah right) which would have cost $65 just for the company to come out and tell me the problem. Don't let them give you the run around nor have you pay for it. It's their problem not yours!
My Cabrio top-loading washer is now showing the F1 error code. I checked the FixYa website to see if there were any others having the same occurrence. Thank you for posting problems like this to show what other people are doing about it and giving helpful information to get the problem solved. I am getting in touch with Whirlpool today and see what they have to say.
I also started getting the F1 code. I called the 800 listed in the previous posts and Whirlpool is fixing it at their expense.
Damon - Brooksville, Fl
have this same problem with cabrio washer, called whirlpool and they are not helping at all. Very disappointed with Whirlpool, until now always thought they would be a great company that would stand behind their product. Guess not!!! and would recommend to anyone not to buy any Whirlpool product, and for sure not Cario Washer!!!!! Horrible customer service
I have the same problem with a twist. Got my machine in May '07 and this month the F1 started flashing. Called Best Buy to have it fixed under the extended warranty and had to wait TWO WEEKS. They put the new part in, tech tested it and it was fine. I tried to do a load of laundry and the washer leaked everywhere! Four days later they come back and tell me that now there is a problem with the pump which is NOT covered under the extended warranty because coins caused the problem and not part failure and now there will be another TWO WEEK wait for the part. Why did it not leak until they "fixed it" I can live without television for a month NOT my washing machine. What a hunk of junk! I am totally on board for a class action suit against Whirlpool!
I bought this washing machine in July 2007 and for the past 2 months I have been having a the error code F1 when the washer first starts to fill with water. I called the 800# today 5-10-09 and they are sending out a service tech on Tuesday. I did explain that I read online about this problem. I was told this was a common problem with this unit. I did verify that this was covered under warranty and was informed "yes" I will update you on Tuesday
I am also having the same F1 code on my Cabrio washer. I am currently on hold with Whirlpool. What a pain this is!
also having the F1 meassage. It will start, then 5econdas later stop;
I hit the pause/cancel, button, then it does the same thing. So far it only does this twice. I am running a clean the washer cycle and will post tomorrow if it helped. In the meantime, I am calling HHGREGG, where we purchased the washer.
ATTENTION CONSUMERS!!! Do NOT buy the Cabrio washing machine!!!!!! I've had mine for 4 years, paid a little over $1,000 for it. I'm getting the famous F1 error code that everyone else has gotten and Whirlpool is NOT standing behind their product, they told me all parts and labor will have to be paid by me, not Whirpool. It will cost $400 or more to repair it. For that money I could buy a brand new washer. When sooooo many people's washers are doing the same thing then obviously there's some sort of flaw, they need to recall and do the right thing by their customers. DON'T BUY A WHIRLPOOL, once they get your money, they don't care!!!
I've signed the petition. I've joined the Class Action Law Suit. I've joined the Facebook page as well.

I am so thankful I found this website. I have been getting the F1 code for almost a year. I start the machine and seconds later it stops. I called Whirlpool and they said that my serial number is a "different F1 code" and does not match the Quality issue/recall/defect problems associated with this machine. I reminded them about all the complaints I see with this same washer and I asked them to come and fix it. I would think that spending the $160.00 or whatever it costs for labor and repair is worth not losing thousands of potential customers...but I guess I was wrong. They will not come to fix my washer because "I have a different serial number and my F1 code means something other than the control panel issue that started in their manufacturing". CEO of Whirlpool Jeff Fettig..I hope you are listening. I own five Whirlpool appliances and you have permanentely lost a customer. I WILL NEVER BUY WHIRLPOOL AGAIN!!

I am so thankful that I found this website. We purchased a Cabrio washer in 2007 and I paid over 900.00 for it. We then purchased an extented warranty. I have been having the F1 code problem for over a year. I would start the machine and seconds later, it would stop and flash the F1 Code. I called Whirlpool and she said that my serial number did not match the washers that were having quality issues/recall/manufacturing issues with the control panels. She went on to tell me that my F1 code was something different. I found found it hard to believe that they could determine that without even looking at my washer. What it comes down to is that Whirlpool does not want to foot the bill for their faulty manufacturing issues. I asked to speak to a supervisor and all she could do is apologize and state that my problem was something other than their recall issue and that they would not cover it.I would think that spending $160.00 or whatever it costs to replace or repair the problem would be worth it. CEO of Whirpool..Jeff Fettig..I hope you are listening. We own five Whirpool appliances and you have lost a customer for life. WE WILL NEVER AGAIN PURCHASE A WHIRLPOOL APPLIANCE AND I WILL TELL EVERY LIVING SOUL I KNOW TO AVOID WHIRLPOOL APPLIANCES!!!

having the same problem...
having the same problem....uggh!
I got tired calling and the run around, I reported the BBB and Comsumer Product Safety Commission. Still no resloution. I was not paying when I had an extended warranty but Whirlpool said it was not theirs, bunch of BS. Fixed the problem bought another brand, L*. Problem solved.
