Canon CanoScan LiDE 25 Flatbed Scanner Logo
Posted on Oct 13, 2008

The buttons on the Scanner itself will no longer work.

I used to be able to press the copy button on the scanner and it would send the image directly to the printer, but now it is no longer working. I scanner works fine when scanner to the computer and the printer works fine when printing from the computer.

You should be able to reconfigure the button settings by clicking on the "Settings" button in the CanoScan Toolbox application. Although the default setting is Scan, Copy and eMail, each of the buttons can be configured to do whatever operation you choose.

Copier won't print from scanner.

Make sure you are not hitting the "Scan" button.

You want to hit the "Copy" button.

Hitting the "Scan" button sends the scanned image to a program, usually a Photoshop or the like kind of graphics program. Sure, you can turn around and print it from that program then, but who wants to do that?

Just double-check for the "Copy" button on the scanner/printer.

I have installed scanner and disc but cannot find how to use it.I found the test box and that works but now how do I scan?thanks

Canon and other Scanners have both hardware and software buttons to scan documents and photographs.
Scanning with a computer is done with a destination in mind. So the buttons and the software are associated with destinations.
Typical destinations are File, email, Application, and print.
In a simple scan process for copy or print, the item is placed face down on the scanner, then the print button is pressed on the front of the scanner.
The software for the scanner pops up on the screen and the scanner moves the imaging light across the scanner under the glass, reading the item on the scanner. The software sends the image to the default printer and it prints a copy.

You will need to setup your preferences in the software so that a photograph is scanned properly and a newspaper article is scanned to come out clear black and white.
Documents are best saved as PDF files and photographs as TIFF files.
The software will have an expert mode where you can change all the settings and a beginner mode where you let the software decide.
Canon has a great document for your scanner. If it is not on the disk, here is the link. It is called CanoScan 4200F Scanning Guide. I think it will help you to use the scanner for any task.

I have never used a scanner please explain

If you are just installing the scanner, follow the setup instructions that came with it, and make sure the software gets installed. If it is already installed, then there should be a program in the computer that can start the scanner and get the image of whatever is on the scanner. Look where the scanner programs are at(usually this is a folder on the start menu). Also, there may be a scan button on the scanner itself. Pushing this button will start a scan and send the image to the computer.(the scanner program should start)

White lines across my scanned images

I had the exact same problem! the problem seems to be with the CCD calibrating itself before it starts to scan.

If you look into the scanner, the scanner glass extends itself into the casing of scanner where the CCD rests. Every time before the scan starts the CCD starts to calibrate itself in its housing before it starts to scan. If there is any reminiscence of dust or anything object (like a piece of paper) stuck in the edges where the CCD rest, the white balancing is thrown off and it causes white lines to appear along the entire line where the dust was present.

Ideally the solution would be to open the scanner casing to clean the housing where the scanner CCD rest. This would solve the problem.

If you are unable to open the scanner casing, then try using a piece of paper or a thin edge of a cloth, slightly dampened to reach into the edge of the scanner glass where the CDD rests and clean it. This is what i did and this solved the problem.

Scanner not responsive. You can choose to have the document scanned to your PC but nothing happens and either location.

Hi, we need to check first if this issue is caused by the scanner it self or by the scanner driver. Please try the following to check if your scanner is physically functioning or not:

Basic Copying
1. Open the scanner lid.
2. Place your document face-down on the glass. Move your document about 0.1 inch from the top and side edge so your entire document is scanned.
3. Close the scanner lid.
4. Be sure the COPY button is lit. The default copy settings are displayed on the control panel.
5. Press the Color Copy button (for color copies) or B&W Copy button (for black and white copies). Your document is scanned and then printed.
Note: Depending on the copy settings chosen, your copied image size may not be the exact same size as your original.
If the image was successfully copied please uninstall the scanner driverm download the latest driver in http://support.epson.com and install it. Try scanning.

If the issue still present we will need to ensure the scanner is being recognized correctly. Have you had any other scanners installed on the computer previously? We would suggest checking the DEVICE MANAGER for any conflicts.

Get to the Device Manager by:
1. Right-Clicking on MY COMPUTER
2. Left-click on PROPERTIES.
3. Click on the HARDWARE tab, then DEVICE MANAGER.
In the Device Manager please for the following:
1. Any yellow or red X's, question marks or exclamation marks.
2. Under the Category of Imaging Devices - Check for Epson Product name.
If IMAGING DEVICES is listed, test the scanner from PAINT.

To scan in paint:
1. Click on START > ALL PROGRAMS > ACCESSORIES > PAINT.
2. Click on FROM SCANNER OR CAMERA.
3. Choose COLOR PHOTO.
4. Scan.

It is also possible your Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) service is not started.

To start this process please follow the steps listed bellow.
1. Click on Start, go to Control Panel.
2. In the Control Panel window you will Performance and Maintenance, please left click that option.
3. Next we are looking for Administrative Tools, please left click on that option.
4. We are looking for the Services icon please left on that icon.
5. In the Services window we are going to scroll down to the bottom and look for the Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) Service, Please Right click it with your right mouse button.
6. We want to select the STOP option with your left mouse button.
7. Next we want to Right click on the Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) service again and select the START option with your Left mouse button please.

Scanner

Try scanning from the image software you are using, not from the front panel buttons. Go to the TWAIN options and make sure your scanner is selected, then go to Acquire and the scanner software will start. Scan from there without using the scanner front panel.
