Greetings from GoVacuum.com,

Have you replaced the belt with a new one yet? You may want to try replacing the belt, as with flat belts like the Fantom Thunder, they do stretch out 4 -5 inches after time. We in fact recommended replacing a flat belt every year, even if the belt doesn't break, because of the stretching. I think what may have happened, is that your belt is stretched to the point where it will not stay on the pulley as soon as there is any tension (putting the brushes on carpeting), which will cause the belt just to slip off.

You should be able to replace the belt (very inexpensive, we sell Fantom belt for $2) and this should take care of the problem. When you replace the belt, you should also take the roller brush apart and remove any hair, or thread that may be wrapped around the bearings. You should be able to remove the bearing cap by pulling them, or holding one end, and unscrewing the other.

I'd even be willing to send you a free Fantom Thunder belt, if you'd be so kind to vote Fixya for this answer :-) Just send me an email with your name, address, and the exact model number (located on the back of the machine, or the bottom of it) of your vacuum, and vote Fixya, I'll immediately ship you the belt for free!

Please let me know if you have any other questions I can help you with.

Where can I find a user's manual for my Fantom Thunder vaccum model #12052 00?

All manuals are free if they are available. Your make model seems incomplete, I see Euro-Pro and Shark in the results. The search query for this is just three words;

I have a Fantom Thunder Vacuum. Missed placed my book. How do you replace the belt on the brush?

depending on your model, and I am going from memory on this one. I have not seen this model in a while.

1 headlight on the unit:
there are 2 screws on the back of the cover for the brush. Just above the wheels. Remove those two screws and the cover will come off.

2 headlights on the unit:
use a small screwdriver to remove the headlight lens covers, remove both of the light bulbs, and then the two screws are under the lights. there MAY be 2 more screws again at the back of the unit above the 2 rear wheels to remove as well. again the cover should come off and you will have full access to the belt/brush under there.

Eureka Fantom Thunder 12V/older model Need instructions on how to change belt and headlights.I could only find 1 screw on the bottom plate none on top plate. Thanks N J

there are two screws on the Fantom Thunder (It was not made by Eureka though) on the back of the unit just above the rear wheels. Remove these two screws and the top cover can be removed to get to the brushroll, belt and headlights. I believe the light bulbs in this unit are 12 Volt, not 110 volt.

I have to push the sweeper, there is no drive

Be sure your belt isn't slipping on the beater bar. Might be time to get a new belt or at least take off the beater bar and clean everything. Dust can cause it to slip

HOW DO I CHANGE THE BELT ON THE FANTOM® THUNDER® AND FURY®? a.gif fantombeltchange1.jpg
fantombeltchange2.jpg
fantombeltchange3.jpg
  1. Unplug the machine.
  2. From the front of the machine, remove the collection bin.
  3. Facing the back of your vacuum, remove each of the Philips head screws located above each of the rear wheels. (Figure 1)
  4. To remove the base cover, place your thumbs in the two screw holes in the back of the machine. Push forward and up on the screw holes to disengage the 3 cover locking tabs. Put the cover off to one side, and go to the front of the machine. (Figure 2)
  5. Check the drive arm for any black streaks which indicate residual rubber from the last belt. The drive arm is located on the right side of the motor. The easiest way to remove any residual rubber is with some nail polish remover on a rag or with steel wool.
  6. To attach a new belt, remove the brush from the base of the machine by pulling up straight up with two hands.
  7. Take the new belt and hook it over the steel drive arm. Pull back on the belt slightly, to create some tension.
  8. Put the brush inside the belt loop so that the track for the belt is aligned with the belt itself.
  9. Replace the brush by aligning the metal end so the points face downward. (Figure 3)
  10. Rotate the brush by hand to check that the belt is running freely and easily in its designated space between the bristle.
  11. Replace the cover by placing the nose in first. Once in place fasten with the two cover screws and then replace the collection bin.

Most power heads have some screws from the bottom to take out, the the top comes off, then you can get to the belt.
