Problems tuning TV and SLV-900

This sounds like something really simple but I am going wrong somewhere! It is driving me mad. I wish to record from the TV using the video facility and have not got the manual to tune the video to the TV. I have tried following 'setup' and choosing the correct options etc but the TV shows the tuning symbols and searches for about 5 mins and comes up with nothing. Can anyone out there suggest some simple steps so I can tune the video and tv and record programs? Many, many thanks.

The video recorder has it's own tuner you do not actually record from the tv... think of the vcr as like a tv but without a screen... connect to your tv via a scart lead and while you are on the vcr's 'channel' (so you could see a tape playing on your tv) and access the menu on you vcr (not the tv's menu) choos auto tune if the vcr supports it or manual tune if it has no auto tune and tune in the required channels on your vcr... it is simply then a matter of selecting on your vcr which channel you wish to record

Sony SLV-775HF issue (power off, freeze, digital cable related?)

These guys have the owners manual and the service manual for your exact model; http://www.user-manuals.com/advanced_search_result.php?keywords=sony+SLV-775HF+manual&forward=plist&osCsid=a4cf756dbc2b6f254269ca22308687e5 Sorry I haven't been able to locate these for free anywhere, Sony do not have them available online. Here is the link to the Wow cable instructions - i couldn't find much in there but you may see something that helps out, check pages 65-67 to be sure you have everything hooked up right; http://www1.wowway.com/cable/pdf/WOWGuide.pdf Here is the link to the user manual for the explorer 3200; http://www.scientificatlanta.com/products/consumers/new_explorer2200.htm and here for the FAQs; http://www.scientificatlanta.com/products/consumers/FAQs.htm Hope this helps, if you get some more ideas but still no solution, please post back and i can try again :)"

My sony dvd vhs player is displaying only black and white split screen how do I fix this? nothing is wrong with the vhs

You have the Chanel Finder activated, usually a small switch on back, or somewhere it is used to give a "Pilot Signal" so the TV set can be tuned.to that signal, after you find it, you turn it OFF on the VCR. Or maybe the remote, check in your manual.

I have a Sony SLV-SE240 VHS. I am currently able to record TV programmes in mono but not in stereo. How do I arrange it so that I can record programmes in stereo?

Look around the menus on the VCR and see if you can find "sound/audio" or something like it. Make certain it says NIACAM, that should solve the problem.

Where do I find a description of the error codes for a SLV-D370P Sony DVD/Video Cassette Recorder? I have been trying to create a CD from an old vinyl record and the SoundForge software that came with the...

You`ll find the error codes in the service manual, But I don`t think this will help you, it sounds like you have a compatability problem. Are you not better connecting your turntable up to your PC?? You can purchase these really cheaply out of ASDA and other good retailers now which will plug directly into the USB port. You`ll have no problems then, I promise, I`ve done it. Ian

The DVD player has problems midway thru a DVD

Hi I am Vortash there is nothing actually wrong with your machine ?.. the problem is rental dvds are not shall we say treated with reverence by many of the subscribers to video shops ?.. Disks get damaged and scratched and dvd players that are in need of cleaning on the lens of the laser especially tend to ripple at the slightest imperfection as do some with critical read settings .
I remember when the DVDs and cd first came out they where seen as indestructible RUBBISH they are as sensitive as the old vinyl record or rather the laser is .. if it has a damaged disc it has to work twice as hard trying to pick out the information when most of the time it is being deflected off the area that it is supposed to read . It is true 90% of the time they ignore some damage but 10% of the time they just can't cope .. Get a good dvd cd cleaner and while the disc is cleaning the machine you clean the Video DVD with the solution and cloth provided ... hope this helps Regards Vortash

Sony SLV-640HF Problem

I would be inclined to say that there are only two likely problems that you may be encountering. Either you are getting a bad signal feed, or the connectors on the cable are getting old and need replaced. The connection to the cable can break down over time, especially if they have been connected and reconnected several times. I cannot rule out problems caused by the transition to DTV, but that doesnt seem likely if there are only a few channels affected. As far as "selective failure" of the VCR's built-in tuner, I would say that that is also a very unlikely source for the problem If the tuning components inside the tuner had gone out, I would expect to see a problem on all channels watched through the system. If you are having this problem on all channels of the sony, then the tuner could surely be the problem, but if you haven't used it much that would indicate a problem at manufacturing, however since at least one of the machines is working fine on some channels and not on all of them, I would suspect the connections or the signal from your cable company. Contact them first ands see if they are having signal issues, if not try replacing your connectors.

Unable to record sound with the ADVC100

S-Video cables carry only video. You still need to connect the red/white RCA plugs for audio.

Poor playback

Because the cable signal is OK, this eliminates the tuner as your problem and leaves the power supply which is a common problem. It is a switch mode type which often have trouble maintaining control of its output voltages and produce trouble downstream in the video circuitry. Either the power supply is failing which can be wholesale replaced for about a $150, or something somewhere else is failing and loading down the supply causing it to overwork. Usually in this case, you can hear a whine noise if you listen close.

Watching tv while recording onto vhs or dvd

This could be a couple of problems. I'm not trying to make you feel dumb or anything but sometimes people miss the obvious. Do you have an universal remote? How is your vct wired to your tv? Does your cable go to your vct or your tv first? These sound like silly questions but they are important.
