Hotpoint BWD129 1200 spin - unwanted drying cycles

My hotpoint washer/dryer is adding a drying programme to every wash I do even though it is not being selected... I have tried resetting the machine iaw the instructions by holding the start button in for 5 seconds but the problem persists... Any help would be much appreciated

my BWD129 adds an unwaned drying cycle randomly, i.e. some times it does not. But there is no system to the madness.

This is more a workaround than a solution. When you choose the washing programme (say "D") and push the on/off button, two lights will flash, the "door locked" and the "drying" one. Now turn the "drying programme" button until the "drying" light stops flashing (in my case, this is true when I set the drying programme to 40°C). Then start the washing mashine.

Seems like the function of the drying programme button has shifted against the settings written on the button...don't ask me why! Of course, no guarantee but works for me. Please let me know if it does for you.

If every wash programme ends with drying cycle then it's very likely the drying switch is disconnected from main pcb by connector and wiring (spin cycle effect over time). Open washing powder door, undo 2 screws at top and remove front cover carefully by pulling to left and then off. Easier if you can take top off but a simple workaround

I had same issue and resolved by disconnecting the wiring on back of switch, cleaning contacts and the restoring connectivity

Hotpoint FDEU 9640 washer dryer - stops during dry cycle with all LEDs flashing amber

If your Hotpoint FDEU 9640 washer-dryer is stopping prematurely during the dry cycle with all the LEDs flashing amber, it could be caused by a few different issues:
  1. Check the filter: Make sure the filter is clean and not blocked. A blocked filter can cause the machine to stop working properly.
  2. Check the venting: Make sure the venting system is clear and not blocked. A blocked vent can cause the machine to overheat and stop working.
  3. Check the heating element: If the heating element is faulty, it can cause the machine to overheat and stop working.
  4. Check the thermostat: If the thermostat is faulty, it can cause the machine to overheat and stop working.
  5. Check the control board: The control board controls the various functions of the washer-dryer. If it is faulty, it can cause the machine to stop working.
  6. If none of the above steps work, it is possible that the machine has a more serious problem that requires professional service.
It is important to refer to the user manual or contact Hotpoint technical support for further assistance and specific troubleshooting steps for your washer-dryer model. It is also important to make sure the machine is not plugged in before attempting any troubleshooting steps. It is also important to note that it is not safe to use a multimeter to test any of the heating element or thermostat

Have a WDL540 can you explain the symbols on the right hand side of the machine has mins and other symbols. Don't have an instruction book. A wash takes 2 hours at 40 degrees its too long.

Do you mean a Hotpoint Aquarius WDL 540 washer? The wash cycle timing is available in the manual on page 8 of the manual (see link below). A normal-sized cottons wash at 40 degrees C takes about 150 minutes (2 1/5 hours) if you have good water pressure and do not use too much detergent. The coloreds cycle is shorter (just under 90 minutes). The indicator lights on the very right hand side (in a downward slash pattern) give the cycle status information. The top light is wash, and the next one down is rinse. The rest are Spin, Dry and End of Cycle. See page 7 of the manual. The function buttons, below the wash temperature and drying time/humidity selection knobs, are from left to right: Super Wash, Extra Rinse, Mini Load, Slow Spin. These are given on page 9. The dryer dial gives you the choice of selecting a dry time from 40-180 minutes or by humidity. The humidity options are Iron (leaves clothes slightly damp), Hanger (ready to put away) and Cupboard (to dry heavy items like towels to a very dry stage). Note the dryer can't manage as large a load as the washer function does. You may need to split the load after doing the wash.

The manual for the WDL 540 is available on the product page: https://www.hotpoint.co.uk/appliances-1/washer-dryers-3/hotpoint-aquarius-wdl-540-p-.c-washer-dryer-white/F064656/ . The picture of the washer shows the function buttons when you zoom in on the control panel. The direct link to the manual is http://docs.hotpoint.eu/_doc/19512781900_GB.pdf .

I hope this helps.

Door Locked. Cannot open. Washine inside.

Try buttons "dry" & "spin" together for a few seconds. This is the child lock display.

Or press "end of cycle" for over 3 seconds.

Or press "options & select" till the light goes off.

Works for other machines..............And please rate me if helped

Wash programme won't finish

this happened to my machine, I had to get a repair guy out in the end and he said it was the heating element had gone and that was why the cycle wouldn't move on as it could not heat the water to right temp.
he charged me £60 to repair and for part, still a lot cheaper than hotpoint though. try to get a local guy, hotpoint charge £100 basic.

WD440 programme m

This sounds like a faulty pcb and/or inlet valve. see links for prices.

meatballs77 - If you have warranty (the machine is less than 1 year old which yours is) or paid for extended cover then call hotpoint to replace... Hotpoint should be able to fix this - this should be free. call 0870 4422 510

Rememer parts are free up to five years - but there is a £90 callout fee after the first year.(unless you extend the full warranty)

Hi, Does the drum turn during the wash cycle? When it comes to the spin cycle does it go through to the end without the drum turning? It sounds like it could be the motor needs new carbon brushes. Regards, Tom.
