You can try fix it by opening the case and pulling the two halves slightly apart. Then place it in a warm, dry place, with plenty of air flow. You could try a fan heater, but set it on low, as too much heat is worse than moisture, It may take some time to dry out. The player i tried this on was starting and locking up and took over a week to work properly again.
I have the solution. first you must take it apart. Be gentle, the case will slid up its pretty tight. Next, remove the harddrive and the ribboncable attached to the hard drive, its a set of pins. If you notice it looks like a compactflash card, thats because it is! Just plug it into a cf camera and format it or a computer through a reader or through most printers because they generally have a card reader that connects it to your camera.
ther is nothing holding it together but a little of gule pop it onen but i think it is easyer to buy another one there only $20.00 or cheeper I got mine at target 5 years and that is how much thay where then
mine did the same thing ... so i took it apart carfully and found that the battery conection had come off ... so i re attached it with some sauder(<--- sorry fer the spelling) and it worked fine after that
if you can- gently pry the case apart. There are no screws just metal clips that hold it together. I did mine and did very little cosmetic damage to it. It gives you access to the headphone plug in. Gently push the two metal contacts down and put the case back together. It won't look quite as pretty- but it will be a working unit.
