a good product is CERAMABRYTE. it is designed for ceramic cooktops and is a white lotion type cleaner. if there is a lot of burned buildup you may also need to purchase a special scraper with a blade in it. but make sure you smear the cleanser on FIRST or you will scratch the surface.
the safest way for a home owner to do this is turn the main breaker off to the house that is the safest way. Then poll the cover plate off the box in th wall with the two screws. not the screws on the round conduit. Then pull out the wire nuts that hold the wires together and un screw them to separate wires I wouldlabel them so you know what ones went together. After top is in just reverse the proses above.
