In Control Panel go to "Sound". and then "Properties"
depending on your operating system. Try to navagate to a pop up menue that has a number of choices for sound inputs/outputs such as "Speakers" , "Media", "Windows Desktop Gadgets" ect. They will have a up and down volumn bar. I would expect one of them to be at a low setting. Move them all to the top and see if it does not correct the issue.

DVD sound is very quite. All volume controls are maximum

Some laptops just have terrible speakers. My Acer's speakers are so bad that you can hardly hear them over the sound of the DVD drive spinning. I recommend investing a few bucks in a small external speaker. I personally use this speaker from Staples. Can be turned up very loud, small enough to throw into your pocket or computer, and very good sound quality.

Ringer is set at max but is hard to hear

If the ringout volume is very low, then try not to select a soft, silent or low ringing tone. Try to choose a ringing tone that is loud so that you can hear your phone ringout.
Hope that was helpful?

My laptop is playing sound at a very low level. All the volume controls are turned up to the max, but I can barely hear anything through the built-in speakers or through earbuds. Toshiba Satellite A101...

Usually what happens hear is that a program such as media player or a dvd player will have its volume turned down and that overides the overall volume.

The trick is finding it. You need to open up any and all programs you have used with some kind of volume control and check they are turned up then close them.

You will never get super loud sound on your speakers but they should be easily heard. I've run across this on both my tosh laptop and a desktop.

Why can I not hear the volume very loud on my Nuvi 760?

Well mine, (760) has a external plug to be use with ears plug, the cord should be long enough and it should not interfere with drivings conditions, but it sound real good loud and clear. The other solution could be the matching on the fm radio station, it could be auto or manual, but they have to match in order to hear propperly.
Hope this will help

Laptop speakers problem

There are 2 volume control buttons on the laptop. 1 turns it up 1 turns it down. Try turning the volume up. It may be up high enough for you to hear with headphones but now loud enough to be heard through the speakers.

Volume not loud enough

When you're in a call, there are two buttons on the left side of the phone that control the volume.  Outside a call these buttons control the ringer volume.

Call volumn

If you have pressed the volume up button, while talking on the phone and it still is not loud enought you will probably have to purchase one of the handsets with a volume control built into it. That is the only suggestion I can think of that will resolve your problem. Good Luck
