Hi My Pioneer PD-Z84M Multi-Play CD player has stopped recognising CDs are present in the changer cartridge. It was working fine yesterday, but now it loads Disc 1, fails to recognise a CD is there and moves on to Disc 2 where the same happens, on to Disc 3 etc. I assume it's a problem with the laser, but could it be something else? Interestingly, the tray for Disc 6 does not load at all now (although that could have been the case for a while as I tend not to fully load the cartidge anyway). Many thanks for your help. Hi
I think that we can get at least one of them going again :)
I suggest
While you are in there, with the front drawer open you should be able to see the laser lens. Use a cotton bud moistened with windex(glass cleaner) gently clean the lens in a circular motion and then also polish it with a dry one to be sure you have left no smears on the lens. Then.... try the unit again and see if the CD reads.
If you don't have any luck this far, please post back to me and we can try some other things. All this and you give me a FixYa... YAY :)
regards
robotek

That is usually because of dirty or defetive lens, as teh player cannot read the initial track of the CDs.
Try first using a len cleaner , like the ones here.
If
this does not work it will be necessary to take apart the unit and
accees the lens to clean it, or replace the lens pickup. The repair must be done by a technician.
In this case call the number listed on the owner manual to get assistance

the problem is not the laser, but the cable that connects the laser to cd board, it is cracked..and will break connection when moved out from its home position, i have replaced a lot of cabes for this model..i know it well

have u taken the top off and checked to see if the drive belts are in good condition and not loose? that can cause this loading error as well as a hard fault in a component.
