My Tomtom XL350 was working fine, plugged into the car charger. Suddenly, it just turned off and now appears dead. It is unresponsive to its reset button, connecting to a computer via USB or chargin

1. Working normally, plugged in to the car charger/traffic receiver. 2. Screen went black (presumably turning off) 3. Attempted charging in the car makes no difference. 4. Attempted charging on a computer via USB makes no difference. 5. Attempted charging with a 2 ampere capable wall USB charger makes no difference. 6. Pressing reset on the bottom for 10 or 15 seconds makes no difference. 7. Pressing and holding the power switch for up to 30 seconds makes no difference. 8. There appear not to be any LEDs except the green one on the car plug that does glow when it's plugged into the car. 9. No signs of life. 10. The device was purchased at Best Buy in the US in summer, 2010. 11. I assume it's just a latent defect that has presented itself conveniently (for Tomtom) a few months after the warranty expired.

SOURCE: GPS Won't Turn On

My 510 was doing the exact same thing.
I called customer support and they helped me get it working again.
866-486-6866 is the number but here is what they had me do.
I had to push down the reset button for 15 seconds (the reset is in a small cut out near where you plug in the charger on the bottom.you will need to use a pin and you will feel the pin push in the button if you have it in the right spot.)
Then release the reset and hold down the power button for 10-15 seconds. the screen should come right back on.
If you need more help I suggest calling the 866# they are very helpful.

SOURCE: Tomtom one not poweringup

Lofty same just happened to me, following great deal of searching, my conclusion is that over voltage has fried regulator chip in tomtom, the reason you have green light is because at different part of power board. Approx repair cost if damage is not too bad (50% cannot be repaired) is £70.

TOMTOM will have a look for nothing, and give you a quote, if don;t want to proceed they will send it back for free also.

Good luck.

SOURCE: tom tom one v1 Loose power connector

If the problem exists both when you use the vehicle power connector and the usb cable to your computer, then you have to assume that the problem is with the socket on the One. If it's still in warranty, I would send it back to Tom Tom for repair. Contact customer support for repair information.

SOURCE: My Tomtom XL won't turn on. No reset button apparent

The reset button is on the bottom of your device. On my older model XL it is just above the sd card slot. If you have the newer model XL 330 then you have to hold down the on/off switch for 20 seconds to do a reboot. If you have not used it in a while let it charge for 30 monutes before doing a reset.
Hope this helps

I plugged the system in, the screen would not come on

Hi.

First check the charger connection. If an alternative charger is available test different chargers.

If the Tomtom is starting, then try first resetting your TomTom.

To reset the TomTom follow the instructions on TomTom website, clicking here: TomTom, portable GPS car navigation systems - Factory reset .

If the Nav is still freezing or is dead after reset, then there is an internal fault.

In both situations the alternatives are going to a TomTom shop or calling the TomTom service number listed on manual and following the instructions given by their representatives.

If the unit is completely dead, as a first thing better going to a TomTom shop and asking to test a different charger.

The charger can also be tested at home using a multimeter on charger connector.

Regards.

Tomtom Rider GPS won't turn on

My Rider 1 is showing the same sympton. Was working fine now I can't get past the initial "Tomtom" screen.

Does it power up when connected to the mains charger?- No, need to prod reset and then turn on manually.
Does it switch on when connected to the bike cradle? - No, only sign of life if by manually turning on but only get as far as the Tomtom screen, not the main menu.

Any ideas welcome

TOMTOM RIDER V2

Internally , the Rider is very similar to other tomtom models . From what you describe it sounds like your charger has gone faulty ( quite common ) . There is a sensing wire that goes from the charger to the plug tip to check the voltage is at 5v . If this sense wire becomes detached or broken then the charger will increase the voltage and unfortunalely , in turn fries 2 chips inside your TomTom . ( these are numbers U24 and U25 in most tomtoms ) . Its not possible for a standard electronics technician to repair these as it need someone experienced with these tiny components and also requires use of special tools and soldering techniques. You will have to have it repaired by either TomTom or a suitable TomTom repair centre . Even then , if the blown chips have got really hot then it's possible they have burnt the circuit board tracks and in this case a repair isn't possible. Throw the existing charger away as if you do get it repaired plugging that one in could easily cause your TomTom to blow again. You can check the voltage output of your charger using a multimeter which would probably confirm what I say above . Sorry to be barer of bad news.... Good Luck

GPS Won't Turn On

Amazing what reading through the support page at TOMTOM reveals... I have the XL so no SD card to remove, but the support page explains that a hard reset by holding the power button takes 15 SECONDS. That's actually a really long time if you watch a clock. I pressed it and waited it out, and it worked. Powered right up. Not sure if I lost all my favorites and stuff but I have them backed up using TomTom Home anyway....
