I used the solid copper wire trick suggested by Ron - worked great. I also vacuumed out the coils at the top of the fridge behind the grill in case that was a contributing factor. No frost since!

I later learned that Viking has a retrofit part to address this issue:

http://www.allvikingparts.com/016774_000_SECONDARY_DRAIN_TROUGH_KIT_p/016774-000.htm

It’s designed to both ensure water reaches the drain hole, and that the drain remains unfrozen.

SOURCE: Water collecting in refrigerator and ice collecting in freezer

sounds like you have a clogged defrost drain tube. removing back panel of freezer will give you access to drain trough, melt away the ice with a hair dryer, youll find a drain hole under there somewhere, pouring boiling water down the drain will clear it pretty quickly( i use a steam machine purchased from the infomercials works awesome, after you clear it and all water drain down tube wrap a piece of solid copper wire around the heater( black heater right above the drain trough) and stick it in the whole maybe an inch or so. now every time the heater comes on to defrost it will prevent the hole from freezing over

Take a large syrenge filled with hot water and flush the defrost drain. If this is clear, unplug the frig and empty the freezer section. Remove the rear cover of the freezer with fan assembly. Observe if the drain trough under the evaporator (large alumanum grill) is frozen over with ice. If frozen, let defrost and clean.
Reassemble rear panel..

Water pooling in the bottom freezer

You most likely have a blockage in the condensate drain line. You should turn off the frig.and empty the freezer, take a hairdryer and melt the ice on the bottom of the freezer.somewhere in the back on the bottom you will see a small drain under the evaporator.you may have to remove the cover of the evaporator to find it.once you locat the drain its just a matter of blowing out the line with a piece of 3/8ths plastic tubeing.

Water pooling underneath bottom drawers

Find the drain line from the freezer to the evaporation pan near the motor. Often the line is visible on the back of the fridge. That line is plugged either with food residue or the collection point in the freezer is solid ice. The self defrost feature melts the frost and drains it to the evap pan. If you remove the floor from the freezer area, you will see the collection point. When the line gets plugged with food, no water drains and then freezes to block the line even worse. So, if there is ice at the collection point, remove it somehow, maybe a hair dryer, and then clear the line by blowing compressed air from the bottom of the drain hose through to the collection point.

Viking freezer leaking

you have a clogged drain, it is either clogged with ice or some kind of debris, thaw the freezer out and push a length of weed trimmer line down the drain. The drain is accessible by removing the back wall of the inside of the freezer. If there is no clog then the drain may be freezing up, if that is the case, take a piece of 14 gauge romex wire and loop it several times around the heating element at the bottom of the evaporator and push a few inches of it into the drain, this will get hot and transfer heat when it goes into a defrost cycle which is where the water is coming from in the first place

Water leaking onto floor

Angels, sounds like your defrost drain is frozen over. When the refrigerator is going into defrost it's draining through the front instead of the drain pan. You can remove the shelves and peel off the back cover and clear the drain by pouring hot water on the frozen drain hole. If you have a baster of some sort you could try to squirt the hot water through the venting on the bottom of the panel. Another way to to point a hair dryer on the drain hole. The best method is to remove the shelves and panel and make sure the drain is clear. Catriver..post back.
