Screen seizure? My Toshiba laptop has a problem where it likes to randomly restart itself. It will 'break up' whatever is on the screen into roughly centimeter tall horizontal strips, and then "jump" around for about 30 seconds and then restart itself. Also if I set my computer to sleep or hibernate, and then open it back up, it will have one of these 'seizure-like' episodes within 5 minutes of opening it back up. This happens even if I have not opened any programs. This is becoming a REAL annoyance. I have checked the temperature, overheating does not seem to be the base of this problem. I can make it seize up if I open Adobe Photoshop, AutoCAD, and REVIT at the same time, while clicking mozilla about 20 times. (I don't do this often I was just trying to see if overloading the ram was the cause of this, though sometimes it does it when nothing new was opened...) Any input would be greatly appreciated.

SOURCE: Screen on Toshiba M35x S149 Laptop blank/flickers

Ok, from the beginning. Can you do a cold boot and get into the bios? (is there an image on the screen then)
Secondly, can you connect to an external monitor and see an image?
Did it do this only when it was heading in to hibernation? If so, it sounds like the power management needs some adjustment.
If there's no image on the external monitor, you may have a video/motherboard problem, or it still could be the operating system/power management.
It all depends on if you have video in bios.
Let me know.
Good luck

Toshiba laptop stuck on getting ready for windows don turn off your computer

Just hold down the Power Button for more than 10 sec. to power off the laptop. Then, turn it back on again. The updates or whatever was happening will likely correct itself and finish. When you turn it back on, a Windows Tools screen may pop up. Choose Startup Repair (recommended). Be patient, follow the directions. Good luck.

My toshiba displays pex, check cable

That blue screen sounds like a kill screen to me. Meaning either one HUGE virus hit you or a lot of mini website viruses got past your protection. Only way to fix a kill screen is by performing a factory default right when the laptop turns on so it does have a chance to get you.

My computer keeps shutting off at random times. I would like to set my Laptop back to factory settings. How can I accomplish this task?

  • Take account of any files or programs you still want to use after the Toshiba laptop is restored back to its factory settings. Transfer the files to a backup location, such as a USB flash drive or external hard drive.
  • 2 Restart the Toshiba Satellite laptop's operating system. Wait for the Toshiba logo to appear on the screen.
  • 3 Press the key that brings up the hard drive disk utility menu. Depending on the specific model of your Toshiba Satellite laptop, the key will either be "0," "F1," or "F8."
  • 4 Press "1" or click "Restore Original Factory Image." Click "Yes." Select "Next" to begin the restoration process.
  • 5 Restart the Toshiba laptop computer when the restoration process finishes running. Follow the prompts that appear on the screen to set up the laptop's date, time and language settings.
  • 6 Transfer the backup copies of the data you saved earlier back to the Toshiba's hard drive. Re-install any programs you need, such as your software firewall or anti-virus tool.

    How to format toshiba satellite

All new Toshiba laptops ship from the factory with the ability to run the system recovery process from a hard disk partition, and with preinstalled software that can be used to record recovery media to blank discs. Toshiba recommends creating recovery media to ensure the ability to run a system recovery even if the hard disk recovery partition is damaged or deleted, or if the hard disk breaks. Reconditioned laptops may not include this recovery enabling software so may require that recovery media be purchased.

Recovery media can be ordered online. Click here to begin the order process. There is no charge for the software itself, for which customers already own licenses, and as of 10/1/10 the shipping and handling charges for delivery of recovery media in the US is $24.95 for DVD media or $34.95 for USB sticks.
