There was a firmware update from Sony for power up & down problems for the KDFE42A10 among other models which were made in July 2005. If you go to the Sony website (service/support) you can find a link where you can enter your model # and serial # to see if your TV is affected.

The update takes an authorized service guy to come to you home and load the new firmware from a USB memory stick. It takes approx 5 minutes to do. Mine has worked flawlessly for three years now and it was Sony who contacted me to do the update within the first few months I owned the TV.

You should have this done if your TV is affected. Sony indicated that power on and power off problems could begin after six months or so if the update is not done. Sounds like it may be the same issue unless your lamp is bad.

Also, if you have recently had the lamp door open for any reason, you need to ensure it is closed and locked correctly or the lamp light will flash three times in red and won't allow the TV to start up.

This is all covered in the manual under the Troubleshooting' section and is also referred to in the first few pages of the manual where the LED are explained.

Good luck !

When I turn the tv on the red lights are flashing then it becomes fixed on the lamp sign keeping its red light

These blinks [flashes] are fault indication (Error Codes). From the number of blinks occur at one time switch ON, you can get an idea about the faulty circuit section inside it. This will make repair easy. These are called blinking codes. Make sure about the exact number of blinking of the standby/power LED, by switching On & OFF the set, for at least two times. Count it carefully. If you wish to get some details, check the site linked here. It has details about blinking codes, and fault locating procedure, to many popular brand TVs and other devices. http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/

Green light blinking, tv won't turn on

Lamp lifetime is not 100% predictable. A lamp may fail without notice, although this is not usually the case. The picture is more likely to become noticeably dimmer as the lamp nears the end of its lifetime.

While there is nothing wrong with using a lamp until it fails, some customers may want to purchase a new lamp and replace the existing one when they notice that it is aging.

If the lamp fails in a Mitsubishi MicroDisplay TV, there will be no picture on the screen and a red front panel LED indicator will illuminate.

Standby light keeps blinking. tv wont turn on

If the TV goes off completely, then is usually a faulty power board.

If the TV goes in standby, then it is in protection mode.

Ensure also that the fault is not coming from a faulty receiver box sending
bad signal, check if you get same problem on DVD with no receiver box
connected.

Try first leaving the TV power cord unplugged for some times, let say one hour or so.

The flashing light indicates a diagnostic state called protection.
When the TV goes on protection there are only two possible causes.

1The internal circuits are jammed because of electrostatic charges accumulating on capacitors, or because of a wrong voltage read by the main chip on your monitor controller board. this started the protection circuit.

2 The protection circuit detected a wrong voltage or abroken contact, identified an internal fault and kicked in , starting the flashing light.

If you are in situation one, then the TV will reset just unplugging power cord for one or two hours, sometimes even minutes.

If you are in situation 2 , then there is an internal fault.

If under warranty contact the manufacturer ringing the number on the user manual

If you want to repair at your own expenses, just locate any good qualified repairer.
