Sounds like you protected the picture. Either unprotect it first, or else just format the card.

When I import from the camera to iphoto, duplicates of every picture import

I have the same problem!!! Every single time I import from my Nikon D90 I get duplicates of each photo on Iphoto. It never happened in 4 years, just recently does happen. Is it a setting from camera or from Iphoto? How to avoid this, without having to create separate folders on desktop as mentioned above. I just want to plug the USB and download on Iphoto without doing anything else. It gets frustrating as I usually download thousands of photos each month.

So did you get a fix (d70)

it will be cheaper for you to buy a card reader. My camera would not let me download photos into iphoto.. try to see if you can just drag photos into your computer.. If that is the case change your photo program.

I have 5600 photos in my iphoto at present, but for some reason around a third of these are duplicated. this happened when I changed macs and nearly lost them all, was a nightmare. But. my question is, how...

if the mac has altered the filename to account for the duplication then you cant , ie , field of cows and field of cows1 is the same photo but a different file name , the mac sees two files , you see two of the same photo,Sorry , May be its a good thing. now you can go through all those photos and remember the days.

alternately , try using search function looking for filenames with the duplicate extension number , ie , search/jpeg/filename/1

There's a couple things to try so dont panic... yet.
first I need to know if you used the software everytime you connected your camera to the computer or did you save them on the computer and then use the software to organize them. From the sounds of it. You used the software from the getgo.
Did you ever format your memory card since the downloads or did you just delete the photos?
Let me know about those and I will try to duplicate the situation on my computer to see where to go from here.

Let me know,
Caleb
