Computer crashed few months ago but had problems with speakers since day one after purchasing.After being fixed they don't work at all except for speaker option in configurations.I downloaded srs audio sandbox and purchased and speakers worked for a few days but now back to no surround sound option in configuring and blotchy sounds with games

the bios may have to be set for the printer port type .
you have at least 4 choices in the bios ,epp. spp, standard, ....
that depends on the cable and printer type.

I have the exact same problem, what i suggest is finding your manual, and CD to install (if u have one) because i remember this problem a while back when i first got it, but after i installed it was ok...if you dont have the manual or disk, you could look for an online instalation manual (which is what im doing right now)

check whether the output plug is connected properly or not.... if it is then check out whether the adapter is giving the power output.... if it is then the speakers are spoilt otherwise u can just replace the adapter...
