The remote to my Protron 42-inch LCD TV gradually began to require that I get closer and closer to the sensor on the TV in order to control the TV. The TV finally did not respond at all to the remote, and I changed batteries, twice, with no improvement. I called the Protron company and attempted to get a replacement remote, but I have not been able to reach them evidently due to their financial situation. Since then I bought and programmed a Sony universal remote, and it does not work either. This made me wonder if the problem could be from the TV sensor. What is my next step?

Your problem is not with the remote but rather the circuitry designed to respond to the signals transmitted by the remote(s)
Find out what board has the circuitry that responds to the remote signals and replace that board. Got a better idea?.
If very expensive then you have 2 choices - deal with a remote less set or get a new one.

I have the same problem, and you have two options: (1) Buy a Logitech Harmony remote - they are expensive, but their database probably has the codes. (2) Go to remotes.com and get the original for $40 or so. Use a learning universal remote to grab the codes, and leave the original remote in a safe place.

what kind of universal remote did you use? I am having the same problem. I use my dvd/vcr remote but i have to get up to adjust the volume.

I just had a Verizon FIOS sytem installed and my Protron remote won't work. To use the mute or volume I have to use the TV remote. Verizon can't find a code. I purchased this on ShopNBC so I would be careful of purchasing anything else from them. I had to raise hell with them to get Protron to send me a manual which I did not receive with the shipment. Protron is a worthless and irresponsible manufacturer. ShopNBC also was lax in their responsibility to screen their products and ensure they're of first quality.

if you have gone through all of the programming codes; you will just have to use the remote that came with the TV set. there is no way to program more codes into the remote, due to its list of codes it was made with can not be updated. i hope this helps

I have the Protron PLTV 32M television. The red indicator light is on--meaning that it is receiving electricity. However, I cannot get the TV to turn on with the remote (changed batteries) or the power control on top of the TV.
I tried to call Customer Service at 1-888-257-8899, but this is not a working number.

I have had problems with the remote before and bought a universal which worked. After a few days the original remote started working again. Now neither works!! I changed the batteries, nothing! It's realy frustrating since I can't find a way to turn on the TV without the remote!
