I recently changed my whole Cingular 8525 housing for a new one (the old one was already quite dented and chipped); the reassembled phone works perfectly in all aspects - speaker, mic, touchscreen, keys, buttons... all but the LCD backlight! No matter what I do (including disassembling and reassembling the whole thing) seems to work. What can I do? I didn't damage/bend/break absolutely anything inside the device.

Try to calibrate the touch screen. Also clean it with a soft cloth. But calibrating it should help the film when you tap the screen.
