Riccar 2150 (1992 year)

Help!!, I need the white rubber seal that goes under the secondary filter (that seals the bag cover at the bottom) It looks like it slides onto the top of the motor front cover. Mine is ripped and will not create a tight seal anymore and I am losing a lot of suction. Thanks! Mona

SOURCE: no suction

Replace your belt. Remove the baseplate, remove the brushroll, place a new belt around the motor pulley, then around the pulley on the brushroll, and pull the brushroll back into place in the nozzle. Spin it by hand to make sure it spins, (otherwise you'll break the belt again,) and then replace the baseplate. Party.

SOURCE: Lost suction after I changed the bag and cleaned the air filter

The bag has a cardboard collar with latex. It must seal over the inlet. Make sure not to tear the bag when replacing.

Is the cover closing properly? The cover seals against a gasket. The same with the filter.

I purchased a riccar 2150L second hand with no information. I have a 10yr old riccar supralite and love it! But the 2150L looks older. I am curious what the age of riccar 2150L vacuum is.

Your m
2150 L is likely 25 to 30 years old. The first Riccar vacuums were made in Japan. Your was likely made in Taiwan. Production of most models was brought to St. James, MO 20 years ago. Filters, bags and some parts are still available from your local Riccar dealer, or from ThatVacGuy.com

Model No. 116.39110900

Remove the filter / bag from the compartment, close the cover and briefly turn on the vacuum - is there suction? If so, check that the bag isn't already full / or replace with a new bag. Make sure it the bag is not being pinched / caught under the cover.

If no suction, look closely at the edge of the filter / bag compartment opening of the vacuum. There should be a gasket that the cover presses against to help ensure a good seal. If this gasket is missing, cut, has an object lodged on it or is otherwise damaged - it may be preventing proper sealing of the door; allowing air to be pulled through the gap in the seal - and responsible for the loss of suction at the hose.

N2000 clean filter

The red guard goes on top of the foam after it is installed. The purpose of the red guard is to keep the bag from sucking down against the filter when you get a few inches of dirt in the bottom of the bag. If it sucks down against the filter the dirt in the bag will cause an airlfow restriction even though the bag is not full.

Stopped running. Filter was clogged. Cleaned filter and changed bag, but still won't start. Motor was warm when it stopped.

Hi There,

This sounds like the Thermal Switch in your motor tripped. All Riccar vacuum cleaners have a motor reset switch, that will shut the motor down when it gets hot. Usually it's caused by a full bag, clog, or dirty filter.

Try resetting the thermal switch first. If this doesn't work, you may have done some more serious damage to the motor, and it might be a good idea to take it into a local Riccar dealer in your area.

Here's a step by step guide on how to check the reset switch on your Riccar 8850:

To reset the thermal fuse:
  1. Unplug the vacuum cleaner
  2. Check for problem – over–filled bag, clog in hose, clogged filters, etc.
Remove the vacuum bag, and see if you can visibly see any obstructions, or replace the bag if it's full:

Also inspect the Secondary filter while you have the vacuum bag removed from the machine. If the filter is clogged or dirty, rinse under warm water, and air dry completely before reinstalling it into the vacuum. It's best to wash this filter every 30 days, and replace after 4-5 washings.

Here's a link to the secondary filter on our website if you ever need to purchase one:

Your Riccar 8850 also has a set of exhaust filters that are on the front of the vacuum, near the bottom where the upright body meets the agitator housing. These filters when clogged may also cause the thermal switch to trip. These filters are recommended to be replaced every 6-12 months, and are not recommended to be washed.

Here's a link to 2 sets of the exhaust filters for the Riccar 8850 on our website:

It's also possible that you may have clog in the suction port inside of the agitator housing. Remove the bottom plate from the vacuum, and look for the tube that runs on the left hand side from the tray to the rear of the agitator housing. Make sure that this tube is clear from obstructions:

Locate "tripped" fuse – the small white button located on the bottom of the back side of
the main body (roughly one inch to the right of the left wheel)

Using a pencil, paper clip or other pointed object, push the reset button in, you should hear a clicking noise when it resets.

Plug the vacuum cleaner back into the wall, and try turning the vacuum on. It should come right back on. If not, it's best to take your machine into a local Riccar authorized repair facility for further more advanced diagnosing.

Where is the reset button located?

Greetings from GoVacuum,

The reset buttons on the Riccar vacuum cleaners are located at the bottom of the vacuum cleaner in the back, underneath of where the wand sits on the vacuum cleaner.

Here's a picture of a Riccar 8925 which replaced your 8850 a few years ago, but the reset switch will be in the same exact location on all Riccar uprights;

Here's a closer look of the reset switch;

I hope that I was able to answer your question. You can avoid the reset switch flipping in the first place by always ensuring that you change the bags frequently and when full, as well as the motor filter that sits underneath of the bag. Also keeping the vacuum from clogging will prevent this.

Washable filter is getting clogged with dog hair

I have a Dyson Animal Absolute and a rescue white american eskimo dog and two tabby cats.

We found white hair on top of the washable filter and called Dyson to fix it. There shouldn't be anything on that filter.

The Dyson rep said:

Check the black rubber seal that surrounds the "cyclone" holes as it may need to be pushed down because it isn't sealing properly.

To do this remove the cannister and dump out the stuff in there. Do it outside so the fluff doesn't circulate in the house.

Turn the entire filter part upside down so you can see inside.

Check the seal that is at the bottom of the entire filter part and look at the two half moon "nozzles" that **** up the dirt.. now make sure the black rubber band that surrounds those two nozzles is either up or down... do this then vacuum a bit.. check the washable filter to see if it is clean...make sure the rubber seal actually is sealing.. it should just set into place once you have it done properly.

Now if this doesn't fix it, call Dyson, the number is printed on the front of the machine.. and give them your serial number which is located behind the removable cannister. The machine has a 5 year warranty.
