I disabled my on board graphics card trying to install a new one on my presario sr2020nx. It didn't work so I need to enable my old one but have no picture. Please help

You don't need to disable any driver, unplug, use ESD protection, install Graphics Card, move the monitor cable to the new card,(you may have to boot on the old monitor connection and install driver), install the driver for the new card and reboot plug into the new card. Do your windows updates to obtain the latest driver. You can open the Device Manager, open Display adapters and disable the Intel graphics adapter. Is it a PCI or AGP Graphics Card? Remember: with a Aftermarket Graphics Card it requires more Power/Watts, you should consider a PSU upgrade. You didn't post the Make, Model Graphics Card, usually there is a Min. Power Spec. for the card listed on the box.

Before disabling the video card, restart the computer and enter the BIOS settings. Often there is also a setting in BIOS on newer boards that allows the user to set either a PCI card or AGP card as the primary video device. Make sure this is set to your video card, which in your case would be PCI-E Automatic. Power down the computer, plug the VGI cable into the new graphics card and turn the computer on. You should be up and running in a matter of seconds. If you don't have video, turn the computer off by holding the power button in until the computer shuts down. Remove the new card and return VGI cable to original location. Restart the computer and use the driver installation disk that came with the new card. Install the drivers. Shut down the computer and try again with the new card.
NOTE: With the BIOS settings to PCI-E Automatic, the computer will check if a card is installed in the PCI-E slot before going to the integrated graphics. Do not remove the drivers for the integrated graphics, you may need to reuse it at a later time.

I had just run into the same problem while installing my new graphics card earlier today. This is what I did to fix it:

1. Uninstall the new driver for the new card, if you can, in control panel if it installed.

2. Reinstall the new driver.

3. Go to Device Manager and UNINSTALL, not disable, UNINSTALL the on-board card. Don't worry this won't kill anything. It will ask you to restart your computer. Click yes.

4. While the computer is restarting and on the shut down screen for windows unplug the monitor cord from the onboard card and plug it into the new card.

5. Wait for windows to boot up and load the new drivers. It should be working with the correct drivers.

If it takes more than 8 minutes for anything to come on the screen(icons, login screen, etc.) reboot your computer again.

Remember also to choose your windows system.

My advice is to uninstall all the the old software, before you install the new.

Try to change the screen resolution, when the installation is done.

According to the specifications it is a PCIEX16 expansion slot. (PCI-E x16)

A PCI-Express x1 slot has 36 contact pins. 18 on each side.

In comparison a PCI slot {White} has 124 contact pins. 62 on each side.

Looking at the photo of the supposed PCI-E x1 slot they show, the black PCI-Ex1 slot is longer than the white PCI slots.

It is a PCI-Express x16 slot with 164 pins. 82 on each side.



The Asus ATI Radeon HD6450 uses a PCI-Express x16 expansion slot.

So you know the graphics card will fit. Low-profile to boot.

Power requirement:
The Compaq Presario SR2020NX desktop computer comes with a 300 Watt power supply.
(Although in actuality it's more like 70 percent of the maximum rated wattage. 210 Watts)

Enough power for the computer, and the graphics card.
ATI graphics cards do not use as much power as a comparable Nvidia graphics card.

Don't be. The graphics cards graphics memory runs independent of the computer's ram memory.

There are two variants of the T5048 One uses DDR PC3200 ram the other uses DDR2 PC5300
Should be able to look at the old ram and it should say on it what it is. If it doesn't, take out the new, put in the old ram and go here http://www.crucial.com/store/drammemory.aspx Run the "Scan My Computer"
Some computers will have a setting in BIOS to disable on board video although eMachine are very low end and probably don't offer that. Shouldn't need to just install your video card and plug your monitor into it. It should work just fine without disabling on board.

You can install a better graphics card in the AGP slot. You most likely need to disable the on board graphics card from the BIOS.

Forget about soldering anything back on.
If you can a descrete graphics card slot free, yes just buy a cheap card.
Check your manual for the type of slot available, if any
It will be AGP if its quite old, or PCI Express.

If no slot its a new Mobo

jumper settings for old graphic needs to be disabled or in the bios settings the on board vga settings need to be disabled this will allow the other new card to be ran as the dominent only video card

jumper settings are tricky
but bios settings are easy just find vga and disable on board video thats it save and boot
