A few days ago the clean light came on -- I ran through a cycle with a solution of 1/3 vinegar to 2/3 water, as instructed in the manual, yet I cannot seem to get the "clean" light to turn off -- ran a second cycle with more solution -- still no success. Would have tried a third cycle but ran out of vinegar!!! Tried to unplug the unit and restart -- clean light is still blinking. Did not have this problem the last time I ran a clean cycle .... could it really be that dirty????? Would it hurt to try an over-the-counter cleaning solution to see if that would help?
Unplug for longer than 15 minutes to completely reset it
Have you replaced the water filter if your model has one? I pulled mine and there was a giant clog of coffee grounds. After clearing it and cleaning the filter holder and changing the filter, the light went off, even though running the clean cycle didn't work.

Does anyone know how the 'needs cleaning' circuit actually works? What is it sensing/detecting?
When the light on our coffee maker came on, we ran three cleaning cycles, cleaned out the water filter, removed any loose coffee grinds, etc. I even took the unit apart, removed and cleaned the rubber tubes. After plugging the unit back in, the light started blinking again immediately, even though there was no water in the unit, no filter (I had removed it). Nothing seemed to clear the 'clean' condition.
The seems to behave like a car's 'Check Engine' light, where it "remembers" a previous fault and then continues to stay lit until the car's computer has been reset. (Others have said that leaving the unit unplugged for a long time caused the light to go out.) I'm going to try that and see what happens.
Still I'm interested to know exactly how this coffee maker determines that a cleaning cycle is needed. Is it measuring water flow through one of the tubes?

This is a really common problem with the cuisinarts. I am most familiar
with the DCC-1200, but you may be able to solve the problem. This an indication that something is plugged up. Open the top of
the unit and in one of the corners you should find a filter stick or
column that is removable. Pull it out and open it up to clean out the
clogged up carbon filter in there. (You can later buy a new filter on
Amazon.) Clean out the debris from the bottom of the cavity. Replace
the stick into the cavity once cleaned. Now it's time to run through a
solution of 2 parts water and 1 part vinegar. Do this once or twice
with fresh solutions, then with a pot of fresh water. When the filter
stick is plugged up the sensor says its time to clean it, but most
