SOURCE: Sony STR DB-930 Receiver jumping into protector mode

I went through the amp/receiver and used small star washers on all the grounding screws I could find including the one securing the transformer, cleaned dust off all circuit boards, checked output transistors and fuses, all OK.

Re Assembled unit and it worked OK.

I will buy a fan and fan it to avoid sourcing heatsinks for the previusly suggested IC's.

Thanks for the technical help, sure solved my problem.

Regards

Darryl.

SOURCE: need unlock code for sony str-dg520 5.1

The HDMI inputs are pass through inputs only. The reciever cannot recieve any sound signals through the HDMI's. The reciever acts as a selector switch for the HDMI inputs only. Whatever input you have selected on the reciever is the one that is being sent through the output to your TV. The "unlock" display shows when there is no sound signal sent to the reciever. There is no code to unlock. This is the reciever's way of telling you that there is no sound being sent to it from that input. Since there is no sound being processed from the HDMI's, you need to hook up an additional audio cable from the device to the reciever (preferrably an optical cable). When the reciever recieves an audio signal, it will then "unlock". I know it is confusing. I had to look into this problem myself, so I'm happy to help. Higher end recievers will actually recieve and process sound signals from the HDMI's. When I bought this one I thought it was going to do the same. That's what I got for trying to save a couple bucks on the cheeper model! Although it is still a good reciever.

No Digital Output

"Unlocked" only means that it isn't detecting a digital signal on the input. "Locked" conversely means that it has locked on to a digital signal. My Sony receiver behaves this way.

Sony GX800ES protector

Make sure none of the speaker wires are touching each other. If they are, it will short out the stereo which triggers protection mode and cuts out all of the sound.
