Big Thunk when Frigidarie Front Loading washing machine started the final spin cycle, then at the end of the cycle soft screeching sound when drum is moving back and forth, any thoughts? amshap50@gmai

The thunk sounded like something heavy hitting the floor from about 8 feet high. Loud. One time. At the end of the cycle, and when the door is opened, a soft screeching noise when moving drum back and forth. The load was towels.

Hi, checked the shocks on the bottom. They seem fine. moved the drum around, and didn't hear anything. How do I check on counter weights???

    THanks

Took the bottom front cover off. The shocks seem fine. The drum moves around without any noise. How do I find out if one of the counter weights came loose?

  • Allan Shapiro Jan 08, 2012

When I spin the drum by hand, there is the squeek inside, whether I spin it to the right or left. going all around, does not sound like anything loose, but don't really know if a counter weight fell off inside, unless I guess I'd have to run the machine.

Does not sound good. if you can remove a cover on front bottom or on the back you may find a broken shock, or counter weight, either would need replacing before running again

Testimonial: "thanks, I'll check it out, and let you know if I see a broken shock, how do I find out about counter weights?"

I have a series 4000 maytag front loading wash machine. The problem is that it makes a loud screeching sound during the spin cycle

You have bad bearings on the drum. This is typical for Maytag and some other machines. A very expensive repair.

Final high speed spin very noisey

Something is causing the drum to be way out of balance. Does it bang and make noise when it's spinning empty? Probably not. Is something stuck on the side (inside of course) of the drum, causing it to shake when spinning? If not, a spring or shock absorber (connecting drum to sides, bottom or top of machine) has broken or come loose.

Hi, I have a frigidaire front load washer, model FTF2140ESO, that is making a high pitched screeching noise when it enters into the final spin cycle. The noise ramps up in volume as the drum spins faster....

Some times screws can work their way out near the drum and rub against the drum causing the squeak. You might have to take off the back of the washer and see if there is anything loose contacting the drum.

Frigidaire front loading washing machine will not do final spin

If you cannot manually turn the tub when it is off, and not in use, then the motor and transmission is possibly seized. If you can turn it with no issue or noise, then the control is not communicating correctly to the unit.

My kenmore front loading washer is screeching during spin cycle and seems to be spinning poorly at times. what is going on?

The wash drum should spin smoothly by hand without much noise. It is supported with two sets of ball bearings. If the water seal fails, water starts to leak into the inner bearing and they start to rust causing a loud noise especially during the spin cycle. The only way to fix it is to replace the bearings and seal. It a big and expensive job to replace the bearings since you literally need to take your washer apart to get to the bearings. Sorry.

Washer makes a loud, pulsing, screeching noise with no spinning

Sounds like a transmission problem. Not worth the repair judging from age.

Kenmore front loading HE3 makes knocking sounds during spin cycle

Ours started knocking several months ago and then progressed to a high pitched sound when in the spin cycle. I manually turned the drum and heard and felt a bearing roughness. I lifted the drum assembly and felt a fair amount of play, which I think the initial knocking noise came from. On the sears web site a new rear drum mount cost 293.00. Today we went and bought a LG model wm2455hw at Home depot, on sale until 2/20/08. I couldn't see paying to repair a machine that only lasted four years.
