Toshiba TP50G60 Big Black Square Covering the screen?

Can someone please help me identify my problem? I have a Toshiba TP50G60 Rear Projection TV. When I turn it on the picture comes on, but only for a second. Then a get a big black square that just about covers the screen area. I can still see the picture around the border of the black box. I have tried switching inputs, changing input channels, changing cables...NOTHING...still does it. Does anyone know what this is and how to repair it?

No sound

More than likely you need to go into your menu settings. Check to ensure that your TV speakers are enabled. The previous owners may had it hooked to theater system

There is one mirror inside. It is easy to remove the front plastic screen by removing the bottom fabric grill (snaps off by pulling outward like a removable speaker grill). Remove several wood screws along bottom edge of screen. Lift up the whole plastic screen frame and pull it away from the TV; but be careful with the control wires that go to the center panel, which snaps off the big screen frame easily. The mirror is right there.

My Toshiba 50 inch projection screen TV isnt displaying

If you are capable of some basic troubleshooting you can determine what's wrong but you won't likely be able to fix it yourself. If you remove the TV's back panel, you can locate three plug connectors for the convergence correction yokes. You pull the red, blue, and green connectors and then plug the TV back in and hit the power button. If the TV comes on, its a failure of the convergence output ICs and will cost $350-450 if you call in a service company.

Black square covering up most of the screen

Try goeing into your Menu and see if you have the closed Caption on that will produce a black box on the screen if you have the owners manual look in there,if you don't have it you can go on line and download it from the manufactures website under Downloads Good luck Walter Grzybowski
