Help with my power amplifier

When we turn on our Rotel RMB-1095 Power Amplifier we get a LOUD buzzing sound (like feedback) out of the centre channel speaker.
Also no sound works on the other speaker. I read the owner manual to hook it up right. I followed every step. I even went through each step to make and sure I did it right. What could be wrong?

This sounds like there is a problem with the final output stage. Is this a new amp? Is it under warranty?

Hi, I have a Rotel 1050 receiver that I am trying to hook up to a NAD 2400 THX amp. I do not know how to "bridge" the connections so that the Rotel amps are not disabled. Any help is appreciated.

I think the best solution is to remove the jumpers from the Pre Out - Mon In connectors, insert a pair of RCA Y-adapters and plug one end back to the Mon In while the other ends feed the NAD (Page 15 of the manual available at Retrevo.com) . The Rotel's volume and other controls will still be in charge of the NAD.

The manual fails to mention looping the Pre Out back to the Mon In to enable the Rotel's amp to still participate in the program material.

I have a problem with my RA-9808X. A guy I know tried connecting some small speakers from a car with it, and he probably did something wrong. Now it doesn't light up when I plug it in and turn it on...

All I can say to you is look around where the mains goes in very carefully. Fuses are sometimes hidden or in a case or cover of some kind. Sometimes amps use fuseable resistors. If the PC board is marked up look for resistors with "RF" or different indication to a normal resistor. Otherwise fuses will have "f" markings on the board. Remember the power supply part might be enclosed in a metal case with holes in it, so might be hard to spot fuses.

Rotel power amp

some amps have a switch to bridge them rather than wiring a bridge meaning output is mono check to see if yours has this switch if you do simply put back to stereo

Right speaker jack not working

Why would it die from being in storage? Oxide or corrosion on contacts, volume potentiometer, Tape Monitor or other switch contacts.

Try manipulating all controls and switches throughout their ranges many times and see what happens.

Check the heaphone jack. If it works so does the right amplifier. While you're at it, insert the headphone jack multiple times to cycle its contacts, too.

Rotel Amplifier RA-9808X

Instead of replacing you can try and clean it. There are a lot of good contact cleaners out there.

Rotel RA 9808X Amplifier

I'd suspect that one of the two output transistors on that channel has gone bad. If you are unsure how to test or troubleshoot this, then you might try replace both the NPN and PNP outputs and catch the bad one that way. If your amp uses an output module then you would of course have to replace the module which would replace all the output transistors on both channels. Good luck. Another thing to look out for, is the emitter bias resistors. They are the large white ceramic ones near the outputs. Sometimes one of those will open up too. They will be of a very small resistance value like .5 ohms (point five ohms) or something in that general ballpark, and have a wattage value of typicaly 5 watts. So they are pretty big resistors. Be sure to check them all even if you do find a bad output transistor. They will often go out with the transistor. Good luck.
