You can remove or change the Window's User or administrator's password. You need access to a computer with Internet access to download the Hiren's Boot CD and burn it onto a CD. Then insert this CD into the laptop/computer and boot up the laptop/computer with the Hiren's CD and follow the instructions. There are very useful utilities CD and it a Linux boot CD which contains quite a lot of Utility programs including a password removal program. trgibson, This either means you can't find the physical button that is on the laptop case or you can't figure out where to plug in the power for a device on the motherboard. If you can't find the actual button there isn't much you can do. Generally it's just a rubber contact to a piece on the mother board. I have seen people using a pencil erasers to make this connection. Generally that's part of the case assembly which means you have to buy the piece of the case. It might be cheaper just to buy a non working laptop that is the same as yours on ebay to get the power button from If you can't find the power connection to plug in then you will need to trace it back. Generally things that have cables lay almost in the exact spot they are suppose to go in without much help, especially with laptops. Let the cable lay naturally and look for what connections are there. With modern computers they make it very hard to plug the wrong thing into the wrong connector so look for something that matches.
Your power cord may have shot its wad.
They are not expensive to replace--even order a spare if you are paying S & H anyhow.
More likely however is that you need a new battery. Those are a bit pricier!
The problem is most likely in the DC jack in the laptop, shows a variety of symptoms because of bad solder joints. The computer will need to be dismantled down to the motherboard level to address this.
