After days of back and forth from allign cartridge to paper too narrow, to paper jam, to align cartridge to paper too narrow, to paper jam, maybe one successful print job,and then back to the align cartridge, paper too narrow, to paper jam over and over - have tried, looking at cartridges, check correct number, check for proper attachment, check for paper problems, check connection, check everything - now printer will not do any thing - no cartridge messages, no paper jam messages, no paper too narrow message, no successful print jobs - what should I do?
Mine is the J5780, but I have the same problem. I cannot find where the sensor is located.
To start with first try a reset:
Unplug the power cord from the All-In-One as well as the power outlet when there is still power in the All-In-One. and wait for atleast 1Min
Plug the power cord directly to a wall outlet without surg protector. (if possible connect it to a different power outlet)
Before connecting the power cord to the All-In-One press and hold the # and no 6 button and then insert the power cord, do not release the keys
until you see a message a reset (if the screen goes blank then release the keys and turn the power on)
Then check and see
If not try the link bellow:

Please Mr garonim before grading any free support as inappropriate try your brand tech support which is out of warranty, experiance their support for an out of warranty product and then vote as inappropriate, please do not de-moralise any free support, which will lead to dis-encourgement and then who will loose it is you users, we are here to share our expertise for free support users, we do not loose anything, but it is you who gain for free, we can try and give our best ever experiances (as i being worked with Hewlette Packard) I would say either get your All-In-One upgraded for some discount with HP tech support if not THROW YOU DAMN **** Out, because it is of no use for YOU
GOOD LUCK

go to hp.com, support and troubleshooting, type in your pirnter model number and download the user manual. follow the direction to disassemble the printer. you might not need to disasseble the printer, if you can see the jammed paper.
follow the direction and clean the roller and the printer head.
it should work.

I had already retried the reset at least twice, to no effect, while on the phone with technical support. So I followed the link. Because the instruction is for a different printer, it is not helpful to find the media calibration sensor, and although I looked everywhere, I cannot figure out where it is. When I went to the media sense calibration utility, it lists a number of printers with which it will operate -- however, it does not list the J5780, so I did not try to download and run it. I think there probably IS something wrong with the sensor, but I could not find a utility on the HP site that works with the J5780.
I did not mean to offend you -- but I indicated "
Mine is the J5780, but I have the same problem," so a solution that only works for another model cannot help me. I came here because, in fact, HP tech support under the warranty failed me. And I am, in fact, throwing the thing out.
