Chamberlain Power Drive 1/2 HP - motor runs but does not move chain

When I try to open the garage door the motor runs and runs until I push the button again to stop it but the chain never moves and therefore the door does not open.

Nothing is straining, the chain is not too tight, the motor does not sound like it is working hard, it just does not move the chain.

I have the same problem with the worm gear shaved. I bought the replacement part and replaced the worm gear. The door did not travel to the full distance between the limit switch. It hit the upoer limit, stopped. When I pressed the remote again, it only reverse for a short distance and never hit the other end of the limit switch. Any hints what the problems are?

You probrbly need to replace the gear and sprocket kit inside the opener. Also make sure the trolly is not disengaged. Tug the rope!

I have the same problem. I just removed the cover and discovered a nylon gear had been worn out. I found lots of shavings inside the cover. The nylon gear is beneath the exterior chain gear. I am looking for information on how to replace it, if I can find the part. If you decide to look at yours, unplug the power and remove the sheet metal screws securing the bottom portion of the cener cover to the front and back covers. Then just remove the upper screws from the center cover. Good luck.

Is the trolley jammed against the bolt just in front of the motor? If so, loosen the chain until the tension is off the trolley and then run the motor until the door is closed. Now locate the up limit on the side of the motor unit and turn this control 2 full turns in the opposite direction of the arrow printed on the cover. Tighten the chain.

If the wall button will operate the door up but none of the devices do then look at the wall button. Find the lock button and push it for 2 seconds and then try the remotes again. This is your vacation lock. You can get a manual at chamberlain.com. Now if the door does not open or close with the remotes you can reprogram them. Press the colored learn button on the motor head and then press the button on the remote. Repeat for each remote. If they fail to program you will need a new logic board. Thanks BB

Door will not move up or down, the drive motor just hums.

On the inside of the motor box, check to make sure the chain has not come off the gear.

Remove the cover and take a look at the drive gear. It is white nylon and is just in front of the motor. It is probably stripped. It is a good time to release the door from the opener and try raising it by hand. Your door springs may be weak or possibly broken.

Garage door opener closes when closed

Try this: Loosen the chain enough that you can remove it from the sprocket above the motor. Now run the opener until the sprocket turns in the clockwise direction and stops. Reconnect the chain. This will get everything in sync and you will have to tweak the 'up and down limits' a bit to get it just right.

Motor runs but gear doesn't turn on my Craftsman 1/2 HP

What did you pay for near gears. curious. often get stripped gears in cold weather as door is frozen down to ground. if possible, kick door bottom edge with heel to break bound if you suspect it is frozen to ground.
